Unable to Update Clear Sky Chart

  • I have an astronomy website where I post local astronomy information. One of the features is a Clear Sky Chart which forecasts a variety of weather and astronomical detail. For some reason the chart has stopped updating. It works fine in the Edge and Firefox browsers however.

I disabled all extensions (Adblock was the only one I have and it was disabled on the home page anyway); restarted the browser and still no change. I also disabled my firewall and Kaspersky Internet Security and nothing changed.

The only thing that I can think of that changed recently were updates to the Wordpress plugins. I disabled all of them, rebooted and logged in again and there was still no change in the display information.

The page with the Clear Sky Chart can be found here www.sidewalkastronomy.ca

    Any suggestions are appreciated.

  • What version of Opera? What OS? How to reproduce the problem?

  • Sorry I forgot to provide that detail. I am using Opera 46.0 on a Windows 10 machine. I have no idea how to reproduce the problem as it started only recently. To my knowledge there were no changes made to the Wordpress site and I am unaware of any Windows updates I am stumped.

Right, but what is wrong on that page? What is being shown and what should be seen?
I opened the page and it looked fine.

  • According to what I see in Opera, the Clear Sky Chart is currently showing the forecast for Friday, Saturday and Sunday......and as I write this it is Monday. I can't seem to find what is causing it although it may not be an Opera issue.

  • The chart just above the weather widget? It says 7/24 (today) and shows Monday and Tuesday.

OK, here I see the data for Friday, Saturday and Sunday but it happens on all browsers I've tried.

  • Mind you, I was using Opera Developer in my earlier post, perhaps the bug is fixed there?

I've checked on latest developer build.

  • Strange, then. After my above post I checked on my Android tablet - everything was fine. Correct on Opera Developer, Vivaldi and Firefox here on my Win 10 laptop. They (meaning clearsky.com) like US users?

Well, almost correct - showing Monday and Tuesday still. It's already Tuesday here and in Charlottetown, the chart should have updated to show Wednesday. Maybe that's it - it doesn't update after the first time you load it? Yeah ... I'll have to try again in a few hours.

  • This makes no sense - why are other browsers showing me yesterday's chart? Your host must be caching the image and remembering the IP address. Which means, if I enabled the VPN I should see a different chart, yes? In any case, the issue isn't in Opera but your host, they need to clear cached images after some length of time so that your users can see updated images.

  • If I go to http://www.cleardarksky.com/c/Charlottetownkey.html I see the data for Tuesday and Wednesday. Also, if I open 'developer's tools' and reload http://sidewalkastronomy.ca/ then the image will be update to show today's and tomorrow's info.

  • Still can't explain why Opera 12 - which I've never had load that site until right now - is showing the Monday/Tuesday chart. And likewise Edge.

  • It must be something in Wordpress then, not Opera. Thank you so much for helping guide me through this problem. I am going to disable the Wordpress plugins one by one to see if that has any effect. It will take me a few days for each plugin but that is the only way I can think of to sort out the problem.

Please consider the issue resolved then as it is not an Opera matter.

  • For the record, I flushed the GoDaddy cache and it made no difference. Thank you again for your time and effort. It is appreciated.

  • Let's move it to Lounge for now.
