Problem seems to have already been fixed on developer and beta channels, waiting to arrive on stable channel.

I have same problem. Described here:
          https://forums.opera.com/topic/20335/your-computer-is-low-on-memory-opera-using-6gb/1

Rather quickly, within an hour or two, grows from 1.8GB to 7.5GB+, and sometimes trigger windows "low on memory" warning.

          (Windows 7, 64 bit)

Can't remember when it started, some time last year maybe. And on multiple computers(2) and installations(4), all running Windows 7 64 bit.

Just to clarify, I have the latest developer version and the problem is not fixed in it. It still happens when watching twitch streams.

I've never seen such issue here.
What version of Opera and Windows are you using? Do you use any antivirus, security suite, antimalware or any other program that keeps monitoring your computer activities?
              What about extensions?
Anything changes if you disable hardware acceleration?

For those facing the 'out of memory' issue:
              What is your OS?
              What is your graphics card?
Any program running in background, like anti-virus, security suite, anti-malware, etc?

              I'm using Opera 42.0.2393.94
              Windows version 8.1 64 bit
              CPU Intel-i5
              16GB Memory
Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti
If I run Opera with the VPN it uses up memory and crashes. If I run it without the VPN it works fine.
Running Youtube and streaming video causes the memory leak to crash the browser much more quickly.
It is reproducible every time and using the Task Manager you can actually watch the memory usage ramp up till it crashes.

Not sure if this is the same problem or not. But for every tab that I have open there are 2 or 3 entries in task manager and that uses up a lot of memory. Eventually, I just have to close opera down and start over as it becomes unresponsive. I'm on
Version: 44.0.2510.1218 (PGO) but whe i went to the about box it said downloading updates so maybe I was on a prior version. Opera is now telling me to restart.

There should only be one entry per tab, plus one for the browser itself, one for each extension, one for plug-ins, etc.

I am new to Opera, and to this forum.

I came here exactly because I was having this problem on Google Chrome.

Also with VPN and streaming video.

In my case it was soccer games streaming through a non-Twitch site. In Chrome, VPN is added through an extension, and when I disable this extension, things seem to go fine. The Out of Memory problem also seems to happen when VPN is active, for all sites with streaming video.

I also am using Windows 10, with a NVidia GeForce card and an old HP workstation (but with 8 gig memory). I have not yet experienced the problem in Opera, but I am new. . . (posted because this was similar to the problem that brought me to Opera today).

I wonder if it happens only when Chrome is running. Isn't Opera built on Chrome, or something like that?

Anyway, I'm experimenting with Chrome shut down while using Opera. I'll try to remember to come back and report on results later.

Nope. Both Opera and Chrome are based on Chromium.

I had this issue yesterday. The computer said out of memory on both browsers and then the computer shut down and applied updates to windows 7. Not sure if updates had anything to do with it but i'm pretty sure it was twitch related because thats what I was watching and I have had this error before watching Twitch streams.

I was watching Twitch with 2 streams one on each monitor. Also I was closing and opening a 3rd stream. I have had this issue in the past with just one stream but for today It mainly was two streams one on each monitor.

I just upgraded my memory from 4 GB to 16 GB

                            Here are my specs

                            CPU: I5 2500k
                            RAM: 16GB RAM
                            OS: Win 7
                            Opera version: 43.0
                            Video card: GTX 750ti 2GB

Could the problem be with overbuffering? Maybe Opera is not allocating the memory correctly with Twitch? I'm not exactly sure how streams work are they buffered in RAM or the HD? Im assuming they get buffered to the HD. Well just wanted to report this issue. Thanks!

                              Interesting point.

No problems, but I remember this: running Google Chrome and RealPlayer even on the same day<<< could crash the system.
No other combinations caused any trouble.

                                Also having memory leak issue

Opera 46.0 Stable 64 bit, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, 12 GB RAM, Quad core 3.3 Ghz processor

I came across this Opera Forum thread just now while looking for a solution to my newly developed Opera 46 memory leak. I've been using the Opera browser for a few years now; I was previously a diehard Firefox user until that browser got slower and slower with every new version release. It would seem that the same thing has now happened to Opera and I'm so disappointed. I was simply trying to play Words with Friends on Facebook (a Flash application), and it kept freezing. When I opened my task manager I found that Opera was gobbling up memory non-stop at an increasing pace. As you can see above, I have plenty of memory and a fast processor so this should not be happening in normal use.

I closed the browser, cleaned my cache and re-started it. Everything was fine for a while until it did the exact same thing again, just playing Words With Friends on Facebook. (I tried it with and without AdBlocker + enabled and there was no difference).

Just putting in my 2 cents. I'll patiently wait for a solution, hopefully with an update. Like others who have described their issue on the forum, it seems that the issue occurs when using Flash player so it would seem there is a problem with Opera not playing nice with Adobe or visa-versa.

I got a response from a Mod on Opera Blog about this issue.

Only recently we have been able to reproduce it on one local machine. Problem seems to affect only Windows machines and some user profiles. We still haven't found way to introduce this issue on any of developer machines so we aren't progressing with the fix as fast as we'd like to.

In my experience, this "Out of Memory" error and the crash afterwards, only happens when VPN is active and while a video is being played.

Not quite true. I am having this issue on both Windows and OSX, no video running and no VPN. It does seem to happen quite often with tabs with infinite-scroll websites, like Facebook.

I'm having the same issue with Opera. I have a new (July 2017) Windows 10 system with an i7 processor and 12gb ram. If I leave Opera open with as few as 3 tabs set to articles I'm reading or researching, I'll get Out Of Memory crashes on 2 of the 3 tabs, even if they're all from the same website. It doesn't matter if I have other programs open or not (Thunderbird is usually open). I don't have this problem with Chrome or Firefox. My previous system was Windows 7 with an i5 processor, and I don't recall ever seeing this problem. (both systems 64-bit)

I'm having the same issue with version 47. I love Opera and would rather use it over Chrome and Firefox. I had the same the same issue with version 41 back in December and had to uninstall it. I never had this issue with Opera until version 41.

I would have to agree with dehtop. It can't just be a Windows issue if various users are having the same problem. It only happens with Opera. I've added more virtual memory and decided to give 47 a second chance. The only extension I have is Ublock Origin. I will turn off hardware acceleration and hopefully that will help. If not I'll have no choice but to stop using Opera until the memory leak is fixed. It was fine(nearly perfect) until version 41.

are there any fix for this yet ?
i recognize the problem when you open a web with an infinite scrolling like facebook feed or some site similar to it.
And mostly when you stream videos on youtube.

in short chrome need to refresh itself when the tab is inactive for a while, when opera always keep it active and store the cache on memory that's caused a memory leak.
