I've got the same problem with Opera dev 41.0.2349.0 on W7Pro. VPN worked fine for a long time, but now I cleared my browsing data...
opera://settings/clearBrowserData
...with "Third party services data" checked. Directly after this the error message "Authentication credentials required." is displayed every time I try to open a website with VPN turned on.
I am pretty sure clearing "Third party services data" caused the error message "Authentication credentials required.", because I cleared my browsing data several times a day before with "Third party services data" UNchecked without having this problem.
Hope this helps to fix the bug. For the moment I am not able to use VPN anymore with my Opera dev installation

The problem seems to be fixed out of nowhere. VPN in Opera dev works again for me without any update or restart since a few minutes?!

Hi Guys, the problem should be solved now. Could you restart Opera and check again. Please report if there are still issues with VPN.

At the moment VPN works like a charm but a few hours ago it turned several times from blue to orange and back within a second.
PS: I'd like to see Austria (not to be confused with Australia) and Switzerland as virtual locations.

Hi kmielczarczyk,
For me the issue remains the same- VPN turned OFF --> can't reach https://support.surfeasy.com/hc/en-us web site
- VPN turned ON ---> can't reach any site!!

Betas are just that, testing releases. Things break. No use crying about it. If you want a stable release stick with Opera Stable. That is why it is called what it is.

@lando242 - please read again to get a better picture:
the old betas ARE working, the latest NOT, the developer IS working and the final is NOT.
So we are crying about the FINAL one and are WONDERING about how the old betas and developer are working while the final and the latest beta is NOT.
