Cannot connect to Internet

I just downloaded Opera last night and was eagerly anticipating using it to see how it would compare to Chrome, but alas, I cannot go anywhere or do anything. Settings underNetwork are the same as Chrome," Google Chrome is using your computer's system proxy settings to connect to the network." I am not using Proxy. I can't access the HELP page in Opera so hope I can get some help here. Thanks in advance.

Most often, you have some "Internet security" program (aka firewall) installed that doesn't recognize Opera and therefore blocks it (several anti-virus or anti-malware suites include such a feature). With no further information, that's all I can suggest.
