How to move "Hot List File Ver2" or the bookmarks.adr location for Opera 12.16

rh99 last edited byI want to store my bookmarks in a folder that I back up regularly, not buried in endless subfolders. We spend a lot of time getting things right in this highly customizable browser and do not want to lose anything when things so south or the computer is stolen. Now I think I used to be able to change the location in opera:config. But now, when I click Choose beside Hot List File Ver2 it expects me to open something. Huh? I want to move it. If I want to open it I can use Windows Explorer and use Notepad or Opera to view it. Has this changed? Can it be moved?

lando242 last edited byThis is just a guess but have you tried moving it to that location inside Windows and then opening it in Opera?

rh99 last edited byIf I move it I think Opera 12 will not find it and create a new one in the same location in the Profile. Correct?

rh99 last edited byWell....that worked rather well! Strange why they just do not let us choose the location more directly. Strange why they just do not let us choose the location more directly.
 Anyway, its done. Many thanks!

rh99 last edited byDoes anyone know where all the settings are located? styles/user, operaprefs.ini? Do not see any file called settings.ini unfortunately. What else should be back up in Opera? The whole Profile folder can get big because it stores the Cache.

The same menu can also be found as a submenu when you right-click a bookmark in the panel, if you prefer. Though you could also change it in opera:config directly, but that may result in the file being overwritten (if it exists). An alternative approach to this particular question - on that same menu is a Save command, which allows you to save your bookmarks as a new file, but doesn't remove the old file. (And yes, Save does make the new file active.)
