When you select it, how much space in the address field is highlighted? Can you read it while it is highlighted?

Two possibilities - as your title suggests one is that the color of the text can't be made out on your monitor. The other is that it is some sort of a blank font - that the characters all look like spaces or have no width. If it is a coloring issue, then you should be able to read it when it is highlighted. A font issue would still be unreadable even when highlighted.

Note that by default Opera only shows the first part of the URL until you click in the address field - there is a setting to enable showing the full URL all the time. Even when enabled though, everything except the domain name is light gray. So on this page, only the "opera.com" part is dark while the rest is light. But if you can't even see that then changing that setting won't help ...

When I select it, nothing in the address field is highlighted, everything in the address field remains greyed out.

Thanks for your advice. Changing the Windows theme to one of the Windows Default theme brings back the Address box.

Opera 30.0.1835.88 is incompatible (Address box greyed out) with all of the Windows High Contrast themes and also the Custom variation of the Windows High Contrast theme that I use.

Previous versions of Opera did not have problems with the Custom variation of the Windows High Contrast theme that I use (I have been using Opera for years).

I hope the Opera team will correct this problem.

Note: None of the following browsers have this problem with the Address Box: Internet Explorer 10, Firefox 39.0, Chrome 43.0.2357.132

I am running Windows 10 and was having this same issue and the problem was and still is present on Windows 7. I have yet to test out the solution on Windows 7 but changing the theme to Windows 10 theme worked to bring back the info in the address bar. After that, I just tweaked the colors and adjustments to my liking and I now have a address that I can see.

I am glad I found this thread 🙂

IMy O.S is vista and I was using a high contrast theme and I had the exact problem. It wasn't really grey but blank. I switched to windows classic default theme and changed the fonts in opera settings to any one starting with MS which are microsoft. I changed fonts before I changed themes so that might not have had anything to do with it but I had to include every step I took to fix it in case it was part of the problem.

Please check on Opera 33 which is the lastest stable version.

Thanks leocg for the information, the problem has been solved in Opera 33.0.1990.58.

I was not aware of this update since in Opera 32.0.1948.69, the "About Opera" kept indicating that "Opera is up to date".
