Request: Extension Bar - resizable and custom order
-
A Former User last edited by
1. Description
Ability to resize the Extension Bar and reorder Icons
2. What it does
- When pointing the mouse at the left edge of the Extension Bar, Cursor changes and lets the user resize it to the desired amount of visible Extension (Icons). In addition a drop-down icon appears on the right side to select hidden Icons.
- Each Extension Icon can be reordered per drag & drop.
Here is a Screenshot showing the scenario (Google Chrome, which natively supports both features):
3. Why it is useful
Since the amount of visible Extension icons decreases with lower Screen Resolution/Width (18 items with 1920 pixels), items that exceed this amount are automatically hidden, thus these Extensions cannot be used anymore.
Adding support for resize and drag & drop allows users to:- use more Extensions than their screen width currently allows them to
- hide Extensions they don't use very frequently, but often enough to have them enabled
- reorder the Extension Icons as they wish (similar Extensions side by side, order from most used on the one side to less used on the other, or any other order one may have in mind)
4. Conclusion
- Currently the amount of usable Extensions is limited by screen width (there is no way to use an Extension, if the icon is not visible
- Icons are ordered by date/time they were added
- Icon order is preserved even if any Extension was disabled and enabled again
Some words for the developers:
Please think about implementing these crucial features or at least some other kind of temporary workaround for using more Extensions

I already asked about the reorder of the extensions and got a solution for. It's not practical but still gets the job done.
https://forums.opera.com/topic/9455/sort-extensions-manually/3Also I agree about hiding the icon without disabling it.Stylish icon is annoying me as many other extensions.

I really need more Extension icons, since I do a lot of stuff in the browser.
Question:
Is there anything about it I can do on my own?
e.g.: manipulate any kind of settings files (JSON, SQL, INI, PAK, BIN, DAT, XML, ...)Picture this: You're a mechanic, working on a car, you got three tools in your pocket and each time you need another tool, you have to go to your locker, put as many tools back as you wish to exchange and than go all the way back to the garage.
Wouldn't that be frustrating?

I completely second @celadyn 's request. We must have the flexibility to arrange the extension buttons as we want if we were to harness the full capabilities of extensions. Please implement these in 32nd version of Opera.

Can't agree more with @celadyn !
At least a way to see and use hidden extensions,
if not it completely negates their purpose. -

Request:
- Extension Icon order changable
Make Extension Icons dragable to change the Extension order. Currently this only works for the icons hidden behind the "More Extensions" button. See screen capture below.

Hello,
I would like to retake this suggestion because this would be great to have on a stable version.
These threads have been opened across the time but nobody take into accounthttp://forums.opera.com/topic/77/how-to-reorder-extension-buttons
http://forums.opera.com/topic/8058/how-to-move-icons-places-extensionsI do not want to hurt feelings but other browsers already do it (this is not spam or ad, this is the example)
https://vivaldi.com/blog/snapshots/shuffling-of-extensions-vivaldi-browser-snapshot-1-9-804-3/Please Opera team turn your head to look at this, we are the community and we have a lot ideas to make bigger and cool this great browser.
Regards!

It would be nice if one could add an extra toolbar for the extension buttons.

I just switched to Opera after having too many issues with Chrome's scaling, and I want to voice my agreement with celadyn's request. I'm sorry to see that this request was made nearly two years ago and still hasn't been addressed. I'm fairly confident that one of the reasons that people looking for an alternative to Chrome aren't switching to Opera more often is due to this lack of customizability.

It seems that Opera team does not care about the users' experience. Two years elapsed, and the problem still stands here!

There's a major bug too which causes opera to crash when you left-click addons in that French quotes menu >> for extra extensions in Opera...
Being able to resize the address bar is required!!!
Being able to reorder extensions is required!!!

Yes I totally agree with this βI require this functionality as it facilitates organizing extension so I can access my most used extension icons, without clutter & having haphazard ordering. Please add this feature which is highly sought-after in browsers like Firefox, which has a seperate menu features for dragging & dropping extension icons in toolbar. This is a must-have feature IMO. Please add this in a new update as I'am a die-hard Opera fan & grown to use it so far as to say that it is the only browser I cannot live without βwith features like built-in Adblock + VPN + Opera Turbo (compression) βthis new tip (re-ordering extensions) would be indispensable !!!

It would be great if it were possible to add a new toolbar. That way, extensions could be on a different toolbar with lots of room for them.

Get https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/simpleextmanager/
Then you can hide whatever ext u want from the bar - but still get them all in a dropdown menu -
