To overcome this same problem, as several others, I wrote a simple utility for exporting Opera/Chrome passwords to a XML file and to import passwords from a XML file to Opera/Chrome. It seems to work fine and it does support the features I needed (such as manual adding of entries to the XML or optionally encrypting the passwords in the XMLS file), but due to the fact that the new Opera still isn't suitable to my needs, it has undergone only a very limited testing. As a result, I haven't even published the utility on the net yet. But if you are willing to risk it, I can upload the tool somewhere later today.

Unfortunately the old lovely opera is dead forever. At first when I read about opera 15 I knew it but I had hope that maybe it's just transition. but after months now I'm pretty sure it's over. If you were (are) Opera 12 (or older) user, never compare it to new chromera! You never find that features again.

The passwords are encrypted using your os account, so it's not possible to get your passwords from another machine and/or os install.

Does anybody know if (or when) they plan to bring back the opera link (sync) feature?

They are working on sync and i guess passwords may be included, but only time will tell.

Here you go: a free tool to export and import Chrome/Opera passwords.

                http://www.pepak.net/files/tools/chromepass-0.01.zip

It may contain bugs, I haven't tested it much because Opera 15+ is not suitable for my needs yet. I just made tohe program to be ready if/when Opera does meet my needs.

@pepak: THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Amount of information about it is really low, and most advices limit to "sync via opera sync".

@pepak Many thanks for making this available. It's great to have things synchronised across device.

If the tool is working or not depend on the browser that is used.
The readme.txt clearly says it is for Chrome based browsers.
That by itself is already not true, since Chrome is just one of the browsers based on the Chromium engine.
                            Those are two different things.
Correct would be saying on Chromium based browsers.
Opera (earlier versions) are based on Presto, while later versions are based on Blink.

                              1. The actual engine variant is in fact irrelevant, at least for now. The tool does work for all Chromium and Blink engine based browsers that I tried it with, because password storage is something that isn't changed very often by different variants.

                              2. It would be better to use the current version of the tool, the first one had several bugs (or maybe not bugs, but imperfections compared to my original vision - e.g. it wasn't possible to delete some passwords from the file without invalidating the others). The current version of the program can always be found here: http://www.pepak.net/download/chromepass/ (newest version at the moment: http://www.pepak.net/files/tools/chromepass-0.02.zip or http://www.pepak.net/files/tools/chromepass-0.02-source.zip ).

I would need to know more info about what you did. You could get the result you describe if the browser was running at the time you attempted to extract the passwords.

@pepak - thank you so much for this utility! It worked perfectly on migrating my passwords from a Win7 Pro system using Opera 26 to a Win 10 Home system. I've tested it on some financial sites with success! Thank you again for your support of Opera!
