Opera is currently lacking support for some codecs that Chrome comes bundled with (I.E: my Opera doesn't supports the mp3 codec). That's the only reason why I don't uninstall Chrome and use Opera only; those codecs are important for a complete Internet experience nowadays...

I'm not having any issues viewing YouTube videos in 1080p. Which version of Opera are you using?

Lando242, (for me) It only happens when a video was recently added. When the videos aren't available through the VP9 codec, they are offered only in 360p and 720p, also, the player keeps lagging when I rewind the videos.
I use the HTML5 player, BTW... Everything works just fine with the Flash player, but I prefer the HTML5 one.

Well, I know some videos aren't available in 1080p no matter what you do but I bet thats not what you are talking about.

It seems 1080 only works with Flash, not with HTML5. Anyway, in my case the Flash version works better anyway, so this doesn't bother me at all at the moment.

That specific video is only 720p for me using the HTML5 player. This video though is 1080p for me though.

And this only is 1080p at 60fps with HTML5.

Obviously there are some codecs that Opera doesn't support with the HTML5 player and some that it does but if you have the right codecs everything works great.

Why Opera does not support it?

That's my point, the issue only affects some videos.
The video that I put for reference is only one of many more and, with Chrome, I can watch it 1080p... I never said that my HTML5 player isn't working. In my first post, I stated that the problem is due to lack of support for some codecs.

I'm using HTML5 and I can watch 1080p videos without problems.
@lando242, let me know if you can watch this video in 1080p:

i've been wondering about this, too. some videos can only be viewed in 720p in the html5 player, while on chrome, the same video can be viewed in 1080p. and some videos can even go up to 4k resolution. but the max in opera right now is 720p for h.264 encoded youtube videos. will we be able to get full support for the html5 player in opera?
