Open in new tab vs window?

Hi - I use a particular website (my credit union) which launches a popup window (billpay) using a javascript button. Most browsers treat this new window as a new tab. However, Opera 24 is opening the popup as a new window. Is there any way for me to force Opera to open all popups as new tabs instead of windows?
