First, start Opera that way. When it starts, goto the URL opera://flags and reset your flags. Then, close Opera and try to start it normally (don't use the relaunch button in flags in this case). If it still doesn't start normally, start Opera with that command again, goto the URL opera://extensions, disable all your extensions, close Opera and try to start it normally. If it still doesn't start, start it with that command again, goto the URL opera://settings/system, disable "Use graphics acceleration when available, close Opera (don't use the relaunch button) and try to start it normally.

@Gravity667 As expected, since you are using a different profile directory.

It also means that something on your current profile directory may be causing the freezing.

@Gravity667 Something is probably messed up with your profile folder then. Or, Opera GX's program files are messed up where you need to uninstall (don't choose to delete your data when uninstalling) and reinstall Opera GX.

                      Also, try just:

                      "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Programs\Opera\opera.exe" --disable-gpu

                      or

                      "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Programs\Opera\opera.exe" --no-experiments

                      or

                      "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Programs\Opera\opera.exe" --disable-extensions

Does just one of those help and if so, which one?

Right-click on your desktop, goto "New" and choose "Shortcut". In the Create Shortcut dialog, browse to opera.exe in Opera GX's install folder and click next, then name shortcut "Opera GX Workaround" and click finish.

Then, right-click on the "Opera GX Workaround" shortcut, goto "properties", switch to the "Shortcut" tab and edit the command in the target field to contain the command-line switches you want. Then, click apply and OK out. Then, use that shortcut to start Opera.

That will make it easier until you sort things out.

@burnout426 I'm experiencing the same problems this other guy has. I tried everything noted above, and messed with the prompts, extensions, deleting every extension... Nothing seems to work, probably Opera GX messed up something with their update, because I wasn't even using my workstation for a few days, and suddenly opera doesn't want to work

I was having this exact same problem starting just last night. It would freeze after a few seconds after opening. I followed the suggestion of opening Opera GX through the command prompt and it worked.
                              "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Programs\Opera\opera.exe" --disable-gpu --disable-extensions --no-experiments

I then went to Menu > Update & Recovery and checked for updates. The browser updated and I restarted the browser. I then closed the browser and opened it normally and it worked.

                                Hello @burnout426,
                                I don't think it's something on @Gravity667 's end.

I have exactly the same issue- I can use Opera GX for around 5-10s and then it is unusable.

If you check this video, you can notice that many users have exactly the same issue as described in this thread:
                                https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1bt1cHvj4k&t=41s&ab_channel=AnswerLab

The same story with people on Reddit:
                                https://www.reddit.com/r/OperaGX/comments/1fcyc2g/opera_gx_freezing_on_launch/

The solution, that helped me it so go to C:\Users<username>\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera GX Stable and delete History file.

@Gravity667 let us know if it helps

Yeah, deleting the history file worked for me, thanks!

it's frustrating to lose your history for such a small bug, I hope the developers will fix it soon

Had exactly the same issue at the same moment and tried to update and also uninstall and re-install without success.

But finally this solution suggested in the tread so far has worked fine for me:

goto the URL opera://flags and reset your flags.

                                        If you're talking about this:

If you want to start over fresh, you can rename the "Opera GX Stable" folders in both "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software" and "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Opera Software".

, then you would delete the the new "Opera GX Stable" folders and change the ones you renamed back to "Opera GX Stable".

@burnout426 Hello my Opera (One) freezes on launch too and I tried everything you have said to try and the only thing that works and lets me actually use the browser is disabling the extensions with the command prompt to open Opera. But the problem with that obviously is that I cant use any extensions 😂. And I cant view any extensions while in that mode so I cant disable certain ones if they are the problem. Any help with this would greatly appreciated.

@Michlee Make a test standalone installation of Opera to a folder named "Opera Test" on your desktop. Does that test Opera freeze and do you have to use:

                                            "C:\Users\yourusername\Desktop\Opera Test\opera.exe" --disable-extensions

                                            to get it to work?

If so, it's probably one of Opera's built-in extensions that's freezing for you. If not, goto "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera Stable\Extensions". Then, go inside the version folder in each folder there and open manifest.json in a text editor and look at the name of the extension. Ignore ones by Opera. That should tell you what extensions you installed yourself if you can't remember.

Then, in that test Opera, install each of those extensions from addons.opera.com or chromewebstore.google.com (wherever you got each one) and see which one causes the test Opera to then freeze. Once you figure that out, you can delete the extension's folder in "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera Stable\Extensions" to get rid of that problem extension.

Another way you can do things is to delete an extension folder in "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera Stable\Extensions" and test your regular Opera installation to see if you still have the issue. If so, close Opera and delete the next extension folder. Or, you can just delete all folders in the "Extensions" folder and reinstall the extensions you want.
