That's really sad!! Totally agree that native Opera's sidebar is unusable.
Really no workaround? Half a year ago there was a similar situation and this here did help: https://forums.opera.com/post/195641 .

(Haven't restarted to Opera 70 by now; don't wanna know ... ).

User @l33t4opera is looking into the issue with this extension, but other sidebar extensions are fine so it isn't the removal of the flag that is the issue.

@sgunhouse Of course the removal of the flag is the issue, because it was the only workaround for a fundamental flaw that was never fixed at the root, the high minimum width of the sidebar.

Not related. File a feature request or bug report, depending on whether you think the developers consider it a bug. (If they don't consider it a bug, then obviously a bug report would be ignored.)

I wouldn't mind it narrower myself, but I don't work for Opera and thus have no influence on their decisions..

I would just like my bookmarks open in a left-hand side panel and stay there if I desire. I do hope they sort something otherwise I will just go back to Firefox

Still working in 2026. I hate that Opera simply is not drag and drop - but at least I can arrange things how I want with drag-and-drop simplicity without wrestling the UI

Opera 132 breaks Bookmarks by the Side 2.1.5.

Root cause:
popup.html uses unclosed <command> tags.

Opera 132 no longer parses them correctly, causing several command elements to disappear from the DOM.

neat.js then crashes on:

if (el.tagName == 'COMMAND')

because el is null.

Fix:

popup.html; Close all <command> tags explicitly.
neat.js: Add a null check before accessing el.tagName.

Tested successfully on Opera 132.0.5905.11.

In the meanwhile, users can create un unpacked local version of the extension, correcting the 2 files as above and deleteing the "key:..." line in the manifest.json.
