Stop Opera from Closing when Last Tab is Closed

@rwhite777 That's the usual behavior. Try disabling your extensions.

@rwhite777 If you have more than one window open and close all the tabs in one of the windows, that window will also close. But once you are down to one window, closing the last tab does not close the browser.

@rwhite777 I totally agree that if you close the last tab, the entire browser should close. I see no reason not to have it close. At the very least, (since other people seem to think there's a benefit to this) make it an option in the settings. Clicking the '+' to open a new tab bring you to the speed dial page, so you don't need to close the last tab to do this, dur....

@sgunhouse This is not how it works for me. No matter how many windows I have open, closing the last tab Always takes me to the speed dial page. I do not have any extensions installed, so there is no possibility of interference from extensions. It is annoying since I use bookmarks and not the speed dial page (I don't care for the shopping ads and suggestions cluttering up the speed dial page). There are a lot of moderators saying that Opera GX doesn't do this, and yet, I see many responses that it does. Obviously there are two common experiences people are having.

@kalikus808 The question was about how to not close the browser when the last tab is closed.
And what doesn't make sense is to close the entire browser just because the last tab was closed.

@kalikus808 You can disable news, ads and suggestions in the speed dial page - I do.

@rwhite777 you can use a chrome extension. Here it is: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/dont-close-window-with-la/dlnpfhfhmkiebpnlllpehlmklgdggbhn?hl=en
Just install it on opera and you're done. Is working on mac opera as well. -

@seanandrei you have to uninstall chrome, and when you start the installation of the extension, will ask you if you want to install it on opera browser... that's the only way. And after that you might reinstall Chrome. I don't use Chrome - don't like it. It's working on all systems (windows 11 and the last mac OS)

I am using several windows at the same time. Multiple screens, in my case. To keep any of the windows from closing on last tab, I pinned the speed dial tab.
