I had a page open and clicked a link to a mailto-address. My e-mail-program was opened with a new, empty message, but the page in opera was closed at the same time.
I can repeat this behaviour as often as I want.
The url is https://www.jg-wi.de/blog/fuehrung-ueber-den-juedischen-friedhof-platter-strasse-2/ and there is the word "Anmeldung" with the link. Maybe you can try this out.

@ralf-brinkmann Couldn't reproduce on Windows 11 22H2. Clicking the mailto link launches Thunderbird like it's supposed to with the To field filled in and the tab/page remains open in Opera. Tried quite a few times but couldn't get that to close the tab in Opera.

@burnout426, hm, very strange. Maybe someone else can try that out.
I forgot to mention, that not only the page is closed, it is then also not in the list of recently closed pages. -

I have now tested this again with other browsers (Google Chrome, Vivaldi, Firefox, Microsoft Edge) and could not notice any errors. With Opera, I see the whole browser window "twitch" and the tab suddenly closes.
First I thought it could also be a problem of my e-mail-program (The Bat! 64 Bit), but now it seems it is a problem of Opera. -

@ralf-brinkmann Fine there for me too. Although, I can crash Opera if I drag the mailto link to the tab bar or ctrl + click the mailto link.

@ralf-brinkmann Was finally able to reproduce. For me to reproduce it, I have to drag a link (bookmark on bookmarks bar will probably work too) (or local HTML file) and drop it on the tab bar. Then, clicking a mailto link in that tab will cause that tab to close.
If I open up a new tab and paste-n-go the address for the page and click the mailto link on the page, everything works fine.
Besides drag-n-drop, right-clicking a bookmark on the bookmarks bar and choosing "open in new tab" does it too.

Also filed DNA-108549 for an issue where manually entering a mailto link in the address field only works right once per session. After the first time, Opera just searches Google for it. But, this isn't unique to the Opera One UI.

There's another thing:
On both my machines, my Windows 10x64 (pro) pc and my Windows 11x64 (home) notebook I have installed Opera x64 as standalone version.
My start parameters are "C:\Program Files\Opera\launcher.exe" --save-page-as-mhtml --disable-update --start-maximized.
When I open "Help => About Opera" it confirms that automatic updates are turned off. Nevertheless, when I restart my Windows 11 notebook and Opera, it installs the latest update without asking. I do not want that! This does not happen on the Windows 10 computer.
What's wrong? Do I need another parameter for Windows 11? -

@ralf-brinkmann Sounds like your Opera on Windows 11 isn't a standalone and has entries in the Windows Task Scheduler that are set to run when windows starts. I would definitely check the Task Scheduler entries and make sure that none of them are running updates for that particular Opera.
If still no go, you can block the update server if you want.
I also wouldn't just rely on the --disable-update switch. I'd rename opera_autoupdate.exe too.

@burnout426 This is partially fixed in 101.0.4836.0. The other 2 mailto bugs above where fixed in past builds.
