Why do I (you) still keep using older (v12) version?

There is several reasons, why I have rolled back to v12 several times already. I keep trusting Opera so I DO try from time to time if it's moving toward my expectations. Nope, unfortunately the new Opera Next does not work for me yet... Let me tell you - I use Opera for over a decade, because Opera used to be simply different. Now I don't really find major difference between Opera and Chrome besides an icon.
Major reasons why I always go back to v12...
- Mouse gestures. I have tried many browsers with extensions to get it as close as possible to what I am used to in Opera, without success. Opera v12 and previous still have the most accurate, logical by default mouse gestures I've ever tried. Typical things - down+left to go to previous tab; right click the link+down - opens the link in a new tab etc. - I assume it can be configured, however WHY? I have used Opera for the last decade (actually longer) and for last years I just installed and started gesturing... Accuracy and comfort with extensions in new Opera and other browsers simply is not the same.
- Tabs arrangement. Ever since I switched to wide-screen, I got used to have my tabs on right panel side, for many years I am used to it and I just don't like tabs on the top. It's just UI, nothing to do with engine behind it, am I correct? For me it's just a matter of comfort that can be achieved in Firefox with extension, yet it looks, feels and works the best in Opera v12 (especially in combination with mouse gestures, grouping, locking tabs etc.).
Opera, if you are after the new users only and you have no plans to make your current/former users happy, just say that openly and set the right expectations. Frankly speaking - I have no reasons nor intentions to have two Google Chromes on my PC with different icon. Make your Opera DIFFERENT again and I'll be happy, keep it as a copy of Chrome, and Opera is gone for me. No threatening intended, just simple statement of logic. Thanks for reading it...

I have to agree here. Like you, I have been using Opera for Windows (almost) since the dawn of time. I am currently running 12.16, since this is the latest version of my dear, old original Opera. The Chrome based versions are ok, but I really don't see why I should use Opera over Chrome when they are so similar. Opera used to be special, in a very good way.
The newer Windows versions lack the possibility of having regular tabs alongside private tabs within the same browser window. Why do I have to use a separate, private window? This annoys the h*ll out of me, and is the main reason I don't upgrade. Of course, the mouse gestures is another important point. I realize 12.16 will be vulnerable to newer threats and sooner or later I will need to upgrade, so I'm really hoping these functions will be included in a future release.
The mobile version lacks a few things:
- Visible tabs, instead of having to open tabs from a button. Visible tabs are more like using a desktop with its quick switching.
- Option to automatically open links in new background tabs when clicking them (saves SO much time!). It's easier to load things in the background instead of waiting on a blank screen. For instance, when reading an online newspaper, I'd like to click many articles and have them load in the background while still reading the front page. I don't want to long-click and choose this from a menu, I want the option of making this default.
- Easy access to delete browser history without going through 143 menu options.
Dolphin are doing these things right, and that's why I'm currently using it for my cell phone. Would love to go back to Opera though, provided these functions are added.
Here's to hoping.

Yeah, I think I may have scrolled mouse or something and switched to different forum - can I change it? Otherwise let's just call it "A suggestion to really really deliver something different to Opera Next to make current/former users of Opera happy again."

- Customizable, advanced UI (toolbars, movable buttons and UI's elements, sidebars)
- Highly customizable, CONTEXT dependent mouse gestures and keyboard shortcuts.
I have a lot of my own actions assigned to a keyboard and mouse control. For an example: show closed tabs menu with gesture, enable "light UI" mode with shortcut, stop or scroll to top of page with gesture, "paste and go" with "right" gesture that works exclusively inside the address bar, close annoying dialogs of browser with middle click, search in history with Alt+H and Alt+B for bookmarks search(customized shortcuts), bddcode with shortcuts etc. etc.. - "Windows" sidebar with instant search of tabs or windows (i've set up special hotkey for search field inside the "Windows" sidabar)
- The efficiency of using PC's resources
- RSS reader and mail client with mouse gesture support (important for me).
- Fit to window width. Brilliant feature.
- Small screen rendering (pretty useful for web-panels in sidebar).
- opera:config
- Tab stacking
- Sessions
- Notes
- Custom buttons
- Real skins support (not just a pathetic wallpapers)
- Content control
- Download manager
- Instant "back" and "forward"
- Bookmarks manager
- MDI interface
- Separated search bar
- F12 menu.
- Editable menu configuration

Opera is my primary browser for at least the last 10 years. Its feature that I love very much is the flexible tab bar location, I always place them at the bottom.
Unfortunately, that feature doesn't exist in latest version of Opera. Even though the latest version is faster, I still use 12.16 as my primary browser.

For most of the reasons stated by STNG and I am still using Opera 11.64 for the following reasons:
- PageDown/PageUp behaviour scrolls by the full viewport.
- WAV files play correctly
- Skins support the Pagebar max button width and Pagebar min button width settings
- Voice support on Windows XP is no longer relevant for me, but may be for some users.
- Ability to change the default search engine is also important for some users.
If not for the first three issues, I would be using Opera 12.16

As for me, I am pretty disappointed that Opera is now like a clone of Chromium. The Opera (Pesto) is faster in response and has more features built in. I remember using Opera since the mid 1990s and I love it. Since then, it was only Opera as my main browser, using Firefox only to render some websites. Now that Opera has reolutionalized, I have switch to Chromium indefinitely. Sometimes, I still reminisce and use the Opera Pesto
Well everyone moves on for their best benefit right? I just wish Opera all the best. I am happy enough that I can still get hold of the old Opera Pesto.

- There is no exploits for Opera 11.x/12.x that available on a "exploit markets".
- With its marginal share, Opera 11.x won't be targened.

While I don't approve of the tone of shtyrec's post, I do agree with the message. In much the same way, I just tried updating to v5 of Sleipnir (the browser I've been testing as an alternative to Opera), and there is no menu bar, no status bar, no visible options (you have to actually know the chrome://settings URL to find even the most basic settings page). I've had to revert to an earlier version of that one, too. Fortunately, I only use it for one specific purpose at the moment, not for general browsing. Still, I'm getting sick and tired of browsers dumbing down and trying to drag the rest of us with it.
Games are dumbing down, browsers are dumbing down; it's like the whole internet is becoming stupider before our very eyes.

There is absolutely NOTHING in shtyrec's post for any civil person to agree with. He wonders where his bookmarks are. Well, I know where mine are and I'm using the new version. He wonders where the main menu is. Why? What is so vital with the main menu that he is unable to function without it? Nothing is dumbing down, as you're wont to put it. Things are being made more user-friendly and finally company's are adapting to the majority rather than a select geek crowd who love to tinker endlessly with their browser (but in general, would not pay for the privilege). Opera is a private corporation trying to make money for its shareholders. Since you are not a shareholder (in all probability) and have no money invested in Opera, you are not in a position to dictate. Either accept the new browser or move on to something else. Why not try and adapt your older style of using a browser to the newer way of doing things? We can all learn new ways instead of insisting upon doing things the same way we did they a dozen years ago. You'd better get used to this brave, new world. It's increasingly becoming touch and mobile oriented and if you don't get on board you're going to become an anachronism.

That point alone makes me realize that you have no sense of reality.

Fine, make it user-friendly, but don't take away the options for the rest of us at the same time. And for the record, I have paid for Opera. Somewhere in my myriad backups, I may even still have the license keys from v6 and v8. And if it meant keeping Presto going, I would do so again.

Dictating? Nice hyperbole. No one is allowed to state their dislike of the new browser, because leushino says that's "dictacting" to Opera. Great way to attempt to shut down your opponents.

One does not give up because the fight is difficult. Regardless of the times, people should still be able to modify and configure to suit their personal tastes. Unless you're telling me some dev has finally discovered the magical configuration that suits everyones individual tastes at the same time? Oh, that's right, they have. It's called "taking away all our options and leaving us with a bland interface". That should suit everyone, right?
I refer back to my original point, that you have no sense of reality.

Here's what I think about the matter. You, jito463, really simply want to argue. You readily admitted you have no other reason for being here other than to annoy. You know as well as I that Opera IS adding back features as the devs can address them. They're prioritizing and a menu is not high on most people's priority list. Now if that doesn't make sense to you, that's your problem, not mine.

Opera 12 is increasingly failing at rendering some sites. BBC news is one example where I have issues. For that reason I need to move to a new browser after using Opera since I paid for it to replace Netscape Navigator. IE was just too horrendous to use. I've installed Opera V20 but the lack of email and clunky interface are a deal breaker. I can only assume Opera aren't interested in the desktop market so I'll migrate to Chrome sigh. Nice work alienating a long time supporter Opera.

I guess you must mean Presto ?, The heart of the Classic, Original (and best) version of Opera.

Which must have a hidden embedded email client which no one knows about (much like Classic Opera), Otherwise why migrate ?. The mind boggles
