I have to agree here. Like you, I have been using Opera for Windows (almost) since the dawn of time. I am currently running 12.16, since this is the latest version of my dear, old original Opera. The Chrome based versions are ok, but I really don't see why I should use Opera over Chrome when they are so similar. Opera used to be special, in a very good way.
The newer Windows versions lack the possibility of having regular tabs alongside private tabs within the same browser window. Why do I have to use a separate, private window? This annoys the h*ll out of me, and is the main reason I don't upgrade. Of course, the mouse gestures is another important point. I realize 12.16 will be vulnerable to newer threats and sooner or later I will need to upgrade, so I'm really hoping these functions will be included in a future release.
The mobile version lacks a few things:
- Visible tabs, instead of having to open tabs from a button. Visible tabs are more like using a desktop with its quick switching.
- Option to automatically open links in new background tabs when clicking them (saves SO much time!). It's easier to load things in the background instead of waiting on a blank screen. For instance, when reading an online newspaper, I'd like to click many articles and have them load in the background while still reading the front page. I don't want to long-click and choose this from a menu, I want the option of making this default.
- Easy access to delete browser history without going through 143 menu options.
Dolphin are doing these things right, and that's why I'm currently using it for my cell phone. Would love to go back to Opera though, provided these functions are added.
Here's to hoping.
