@tasha1241 Use Shift + Esc to see the processes running in Opera and how much memory they are using.

Hi, I have a problem since upgrade to Opera 86.X.
Usage of CPU is very high, almost 50% for couple of minutes, can be reproduced when you open more windows with plenty of tabs (e. .g. currently opened 10 windows, each window in average 5 tabs) and starts typing in the URL address bar (probably issue regarding changes of the URL bar).
Tested without any extensions, the biggest consumption is done by the "Background worker".
Pretty annoying and expensive...
When I downgrade to Opera 85.0.4341.75, everything is OK.I have also reported a bug, however, nobody has answered yet.

I had Opera running with 16gb ram, and it was using 6gb of it.
I just upgraded to 32gb ram, and it starts using 14gb now.Same tabs open, nothing changed and no viruses.
Did anyone have this before? If so, how was it fixed?
Thanks in advance

@orbitalvsat You can use Shift + Esc to view the processes running in Opera and how much memory they are using.

Is this a problem? Unless Opera (or any other process) takes all free memory to itself and makes other apps work slower, IMO memory consumption is not a big problem. You have 18GB left for other tasks, after all

When I use Opera GX, The Process "GPU process" appears, when i close it, the browser goes dark for like a second, but then the process restarts. It eats a lot of CPU usage.

Opera was too slow.
Version:92.0.4561.21
But i found a Solution - and and a severe Opera error?Opera used too much CPU and Harddisk in the Windows task manager.
This also together with the "System" Task.I looked in the Opera Task-Manager and found that "Tab Speed Dial" is using too much CPU when pages are loading.
So in options i unchecked, disabled "Show Speed Dial Suggestions" and at once it runs much faster! This must be an Opera error because this has nothing to do with opening new tabs with speed dials.
AND System Task is quiet now too
Perhaps this could be no coincidence and is also a Windows error. -

Also I forgot to mention, that the Opera GX uses the most RAM & CPU.

I started using opera for it's low CPU usage, but now (I think ever since they added this AI thingy) is now super high even with one or two tabs. I already "disabled" the AI prompts, (even though the process is still there and won't go away). I have no idea how to decrease it's usage further.
And yes, I know about GX, i use that one as well. But I still liked the old opera better when I could simply browse without my PC starting to make mild noise. And I would also rather not have to migrate everything once more.
I feel like this is one of those things when they make the platform worse without knowing it. But these things matter to folks. It's actually a big deal.

Hi all! Quite a long time ago I ran into a problem that one of the opera processes starts to heavily load the CPU. If you try to close this process, then the entire opera closes. I also tried disabling extensions, but the problem did not go away.
Is there a way to monitor opera resources (like task manager)? Is there any way to find out what the problem is? -

I also have high COU usage recently. Like recent month
This sucks so much. I used opera cuz it used less than others and now it seems it does not. The usage is by process "browser" if I open task manager Shift+Esc -

I moved away from Opera some month(s) ago because of performance issues with zero tabs and zero extensions active.
But what I noticed is that Opera hangs on history. I now had the time to do more investigation and for me the 105% CPU browser usage @Shift-Esc disappears when I rename my history file
@ C:\Users[Windows username]\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera Stable
I renamed the file "History" to "History" and my zero tab CPU 105% usage disappeared instantly. The only problem is that your history is gone as well ^^.
Might give Opera another try. Because Brave browser is also not the perfect alternative.

@nldav I've been using my profiles for over 2 yrs.
Then I tried to Create a clean profile folder/directory as Instructions on posting about problems in Opera for Windows says. Then the problem is gone. Then I restored my profile folder, the problem just reoccurs.
I doubt if they even run performance tests with heavy loads of profile/history data. -

On my PC system, an Intel based 8 core CPU running at around 4.5 GHz on turbo, with water cooler...
The CPU temp shown on Core-temp reaches 100 C. That is the max temp, this CPU is designed for. The CPU usage in proces explorer, is high and fluctuates... It can reach 30% which is very high.
Meanwhile using Google Chrome, the usage of both CPU and RAM is much lower... and the CPU temp is decreasing...
