@donq said in Opera eats 60% cpu while I input text in address bar.:
category view
- the problem does not depend on the using of vpn. Firtsly It was vpn from avira. Now - not.
- I switched the interface to English, but didn't get, What is "category view".
- I try to use Fiddler (or what else?).

Sorry, this is in flags: chrome://flags/#address-bar-dropdown-categories - and maybe not in stable version; I'm using dev version here.
About VPN - I meant Opera internal VPN, not external one.

@donq, I installed Fiddler with a root certificate. But the results are a bit unexpected:
The reason of CPU load that address-bar-dropdown-categories is ON by default. ))
(without prediction in address bar.)
It is not clear for me why this function consumes so many resources.Fiddler don't shows any packets in the load. Generaly. Until I press "enter".
But... Firewall says about Fiddler, MS Defender and Opera packets. Hmm...
Sometimes - about MS telemetry, but not always.
Here is the screen. When prediction is on, Fiddler shows the packets going to the Search site and Fiddler.
When Сategories is OFF, with prediction opera take no more than 25% of cpu for 3-5 seconds.
Everything turned out to be a little easier. Maybe..

@propheta
Categories view seems to be culprit then. (I have turned it off, makes me angry.)
You could file Opera bug report (O menu - Help - Report an issue), you will get no feedback, but they will take a look.Opera connections from/to 127.0.0.1 are local ones, between some its components. Fiddler connections - I have no idea; because it is free, then likely these are some privacy violations or so

@propheta Alright, thanks. It is on for some people who are in a test group, so I thought we could narrow down the cause if you happened to be in that group.
Could you make a video of the freeze happening and upload it somewhere to get a better idea of what you're seeing on your end?

@avl Here is the video. yandex disk
There are very few tabs open, and they are all lightweight. Some of them are partially loaded. As can be seen from the size of Opera in memory.
Screening with а simple videocard takes 1/4. -

Here's one thing that I noticed right off the bat: I opened up a single browser window with one single tab open and when I go to Windows Task Manager, it shows 14 instances of Opera taking up 488 MB of memory. 14!!!!! And that's only having speed dial open, I haven't even clicked on a website yet. And yes, I verified that Task Manager was showing no lingering instances of Opera before opening this single window/tab.This just barely started happening after the last update of Opera, so don't send us down a rabbit hole screwing around with troubleshooting and little implications of "This is your problem, what did you do?" The problem is clearly with the last update, so roll it back until you figure out your problem. If that doesn't happen expeditiously, I will abandon this platform. I'm not going to screw around doing 50 hours of your troubleshooting for you and get treated like I'm the problem here.

@skankandgutterboy A simple research would probably have told you that Chromium is muilti-process and that 488MB of RAM usage is very low.
As said many times, you can use Shift + Esc to see the processes running in Opera and how much CPU and RAM they are using. You can also get there with Menu > Developer > Task Manager
By the way, you are free to use any browser that you want, no need tio come here that you will do that if this or that don't happen because, you, it won;'t change anything.

@skankandgutterboy I see this started happening long before the last update and on all browsers that are based on the Chrome engine.
Moreover, over the past couple of years, the Chrome engine has been well optimized and now it consumes memory less than 1.5 times (at least in Opera).
But the bookmarks at the end of the list with the last update - a little enrage. ) But that's another topic. -

Fair enough and I think you're right but when using Opera, my CPU frequently jumps to 100% and my computer freezes (including the mouse cursor) for approx 30 seconds. When I open Task Manager, I see that CPU has pegged high. I even get an occasional crash. My solution is to use Opera GX for now, it's not having any of these problems. -
