Restoration of overwritten files and keeping Opera from deleting new ones

I messed something up with my local files and now my Opera has none of my local data - no passwords, bookmawks etc.. It also deletes everything (like passwords) as I close the browser, with such option in Setting being turned off.
How do I restore my local files if they were overwritten and I have no backup versions, and how do I stop Opera fom deleting my files after I close it? -

@susabobus Opera doesn't have a setting to remove data on exit, so if your data is not being kept, it's either because Opera is not being able to save it or something is removing it.
The data goes away if you just close Opera and reopen it right next?

@susabobus No error messages when you start Opera? It sounds like your profile is locked, which can happen if you ran Opera as admin at some point. Or there's an error on your drive.

@susabobus Let's do a test.
Go to https://www.opera.com/computer/portable to download the portable version of Opera. Then install it without changing anything.
Use it for a while, try to save passwords, add bookmarks, etc and see if they are kept when you close Opera.
