why did auto-refresh from 138 to 140 delete everything?

bookmarks, history, logins, all of it gone - even though it's presumably still right there in /snap/opera/138. 140 is acting like a clean install, though it floats the option of syncing if I have an account.

I ditched Chromium largely for the privacy. Now that I've given you my email and confirmed it, please tell me:

1. how I can import the data from 138 to 140 without logging in to anything
   ) how I can arrange non-amnesic updates
   ) how I can then delete this account I did not want to create.

@kozzm0 While I was able to work around this by merging the /138 folder into the /140 folder, that's an inherently flawed fix that could break other things depending on what the update changes.

Now this update to 141 did the same thing, just seven days later. Is this going to be a regular thing?

I don't take it personally that noone has replied, and I've heard this browser has seen better years, but this is a fubar-type problem that developers shouldn't ignore. How hard would it be to stop the updates from causing amnesia?

@kozzm0 Personally I know nothing about snap packages, I still use the rpm packages and they work fine.

@sgunhouse good call. I use ubuntu 20.04, switched over to the .deb package and merged in the config stuff to that. If it works I will just remove the snap version.
