You can goto https://addons.opera.com/en/wallpapers/?tag=animated and install one of the animated wallpapers. Then, in Opera, goto the URL
opera://about
and take note of the "profile" path. Then, close Opera and look in the "themes" folder in the profile folder.You'll see the folder for the wallpaper you installed. In it, you can see how to create your own. You then just zip up your persona.ini file with the webm file and thumbnail and you 'll have your custom wallpaper.

@burnout426
what do you mean by "you can see how to create your own"? All I see is a list of my current wallpapers and there's no place to upload -

@radio-richard Goto https://addons.opera.com/en/wallpapers/details/beautiful-waterfall/ and install that animated wallpaper. Then, goto the URL
opera://about
and take note of the "profile" path. Close Opera and goto the profile folder in Windows Explorer/File Explorer.In the profile folder, there's a themes folder. Navigate to it. In the themes folder you'll see "beautiful-waterfall.zip". Right-click on it and extract . In it, you'll see persona.ini, first_frame_start_page.jpeg, and video.webm. Open persona.ini in a text editor to see how it references first_frame_start_page.jpeg and video.webm.
So, to make your own animated wallpaper, you create a persona.ini that references a jpeg and a webm file. You then take personal.ini, the jpeg file, and the webm file and zip them up together into my_theme.zip.
Then, in Opera, click the easy-setup button at the right of the address bar, scroll down to the start page section, click "add your wallpaper" and point it to my_theme.zip.
Hope that helps.

@radio-richard Another way to do it is to just add a webp animation file via "Add your wallpaper". To convert your existing video to a webp file, see https://forums.opera.com/post/252341 for one way to do it.

@burnout426 Hey there. I saw your replies in this thread, and another similar thread. They really do seem to be helpful and well informed, so I think I'm doing something wrong on my end. If you have the time, I'd greatly appreciate it if you could help me figure out why I haven't been able to get the results I want.
I'm using the latest version of Opera GX (updated on the day I post this, June 2nd). Whenever I try to load in the wallpaper archive, literally nothing happens. The file explorer closes when I click to open the file, but the browser itself doesn't seem to have any desire to recognize it.My process is as follows, if that may shed any light on this.
I downloaded the animated wallpaper with the waterfall. I extracted the files in its zip to my desktop, and created a new folder. I put in my video, and thumbnail, both renamed to fit the files in the waterfall wallpaper. I created a persona.ini file within the folder, and made the text match that of the waterfall video, with changes made to the "Name" "Author" and "Version" sections.If there's any way anyone can help me, then I'd greatly appreciate it if you did. If there's not, then thank you for taking the time to read this post.

@neiroe If you double-left-click on the original beautiful-waterfall.zip to view its contents, you should see the 3 files and no folders. As in, persona.ini and the other files are in the root of the zip file. Double-left-click the zip file you created and make sure it's the same way.

@burnout426 Yep, they're all in the root of the .zip, and not a folder. Still, no dice :p
@sgunhouse I'm sorry, I'm not exactly sure what you meant. I archived only the folder that the three files were inside of. Should I have gone a step above in the directory?
Thank you both for taking the time to reply to me.

@neiroe What type of file are you using for the video? You can send me your whole zip file if you want so I can test it.

@sgunhouse, @neiroe sent me a link to the zip file. Tested it in my Opera GX and Opera on Windows 10 and the animated wallpaper works just fine.

The method itself doesn't seem to have any issues, tested in a standalone instance of Opera GX. Thank you all for your time.

@akut Can you add any animated wallpaper from https://addons.opera.com/en/wallpapers/?tag=animated
otherwise Double check:
video is .webm format
make sure your thumbnail graphic is jpg format and named "first_frame_start_page.jpg" or "first_frame_start_page.jpeg". If you use jpeg as the extension rename the extension in the persona.ini
change the line "background = video.webm" to your actual video name. I don't know what the limit is in time or resolution so you might have to experiment there.
Put your name in the name field but I just tried it with all the info lines left blank and it still worked.
We Need A Text File Named persona.ini make sure the extension here is .ini and not .txt. When you make this file, before saving under file name, click on Save as type and switch from Text Documents (.txt) to All Files (.*)
[Info]
name =
author =
url =
version =[Start Page]
background = video.webm
position = center center
title text color = #FFFFFF
title text shadow = #000000
first frame image = first_frame_start_page.jpgzip up all three files into one zip which includes your video, thumbnail file, and persona.ini. Make sure it's a zip file and not 7zip or rar. I can confirm this also works in Opera GX.
Be sure to change the Wallpaper image option to Wallpaper archive when choosing your wallpaper.
Otherwise copy your zip file to this folder: C:\Users\Terry\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera Stable\themes (replace my name with your own account name. And see if you can add it.
