You switch to something like LastPass. Seriously. Having all your passwords in a separate location is a much better idea than tying them to a specific browser. LastPass is cross-browser and cross-platform, and just makes life so much easier when it comes to password management. Never again will you have to import your passwords into a new browser or anything like that, you just install the LP extension. It will still auto-fill your passwords and all that, so you don't lose any functionality (rather, you gain a lot - LP has many great features beyond just storing passwords).

Start typing the user ID DOES NOT WORK! Having many id's and passwords, the 'key' icon was a saver.

Strange ... for me deleting the login which was filled in and typing the one I want works fine. 😕 Are you sure Opera has your correct login(s) for that site? There is a bug in 15, for some people (including myself) it would import the passwords but lose the corresponding usernames ... go to Settings >Privacy & Security and click on Manage saved passwords and check the list to see if it has the right username(s) listed for that site.

which in itself is a major security risk having O15 store passwords is as good as using sticky notes on the edge of your monitor

Then don't save passwords in any browser. If you have auto fill enabled on any browser, anyone with physical access to that browser can read your passwords.

Uhm, sgunhouse, how do you read passwords out of wand.dat? I thought they were encrypted in some way. And even if it is not really a secure thing, it is still better than a list of clear text passwords.

Afaik you can't read passwords from "login data" unless you are in Opera. Just opening the file will not reveal any password.

And i recall that many people asked for a way to see their passwords in password manager.

There is a program out there, though it may not be up-to-date, that would decode all the password data from Opera 9 (if you didn't use a master password). And of course there are buttons and JS to reveal passwords on a site-by-site basis in any browser. Yes, they are encrypted, but the browser has to be able to read them.

If you've been around that long, you may remember that Opera Software was reluctant to add a password keeper in the first place. That is why. There can't be a truly secure password autofill in any browser.

Yes, there cannot be a secure password autofill anywhere. Even if passwords are hashed and (badly) salted, an attacker might still be able to reconstruct the password from the encrypted hash. Still, you can simply(!) have a look at the stored passwords in Chrome while in Opera v12 you had to do some tricks. Also, you could add a master password to the mix to add another barrier, which as far as I know you cannot do in Chrome.

Hi all. I just want to know if Opera 18 will have the password button. Have read the change log posted yerterdar (October 7) and none is said about it.

I hope at least could be an option to enable/disable it in case some people doesn't use it, because i use it, is real savior when having multiple accounts.

Please, since stable version has been release, could be just great that this icon is placed again. At least place a option so the users can choice neither activate or deactivate it.
