Opera 15 / Next: No MRU Tab Navigation

Hi,
you gotta be joking me. I have been using Opera since Version 4 I think as my main browser on any system. But the current release, as much as the much faster Render Engine is appreciated, is feature wise a joke on Opera standards.
You gotta be kidding me to not support MRU (Most recently used) for tab navigation. This is so important I immediatley closed the new version after learning this is not supported.
Additionally I pretty much support the other threads complaining about missing well known Opera features. You released this version way to early, this it not good for Opera.
I have even feared installing and porting my 40.000 E-Mails to the new client - too many bad reviews so that I am fearing a not solid version for my important data.
I hope this is not the end to a long yeared browser love.

That's a must-have feature for me. I'm used to it in so many other applications that use tabs.

Absolutely. I can't believe there aren't thousands of "+1"'s with strong argumentation here to support this. Must be happening in a different thread, I guess/hope.
There are some Chrome extensions that offer workarounds, but firstly, they won't work with Opera at this point and secondly, the workarounds aren't near as good as the real thing.
Opera pioneered the tabbed browser interface, for god's sake. And now it can't even switch between them properly?

Ctrl+Q may not be optimal but I could live with that, provided it works the way Ctrl+tabs used to.

Just noticed you can do already do this in O16, on the opera:flags page. Makes Ctrl+Tab work the same way Ctrl+Q does. Kind of hard to tell which tab is going to be activated though, the tab cycler really needs to return.

I feel stupid now for this, but I had completely missed this "Flags" page before. I was so disappointed at first that, while continuing to use 12.x for regular browsing, I didn't read enough of the new versions' fine print nor did I played around enough to explore. When I couldn't find any "opera:config" or satisfactory "advanced" settings, I gave up too quickly and simply assumed there weren't as yet easily configurable options beyond Ctrl+F /main menu settings. But now, the mere knowledge that there are already quite a few not so obvious options to fiddle around with has improved my Opera-related mood by more than just a little. Quite a bit, actually. Knowing that features like this are slowly coming back gives me hope that other, sorely missed, former Opera features may follow suit - if not today or tomorrow than perhaps the day after or, if not then, than at least at *some* point in the future. As long as it is sooner than "never", I know I'll be happy - in the end.
I'm still wary/doubtful about Opera's future and whether it will be able to find and reclaim its former character, that special uniqueness that so many among us simply can't conceive of doing without. But there's hope, and the info I've received here has now improved mine quite substantially. Development may appear to be proceeding at a snail's pace, but the task of migrating Opera's defining features to the new engine, presumably, has hurdles and challenges on its way that can't be bypassed and require substantial amounts of time. But I remembered an old saying, though not the exact words of it: "The slowest growing timber gives the best wood". The first part, about growth that's slow, applies to Opera's transformation into a Chromium-type browser, no doubt. I sincerely hope the second part of the saying, about the quality of such slow growth will, eventually, apply as well. Pressing both thumbs.

thanks for all your help. The "flags" setting is for Windows only so, I was so curious to test it (after months of ignoring the Opera Next) and then disappointed to see it not working on OSX (absolutely no idea why this feature is OS dependent).
Hope to see it coming to OSX now.
Until then, I stay at Opera 12 or use different ones.

I am sad. But also happy now.
I changed my default browser as a Developer Power User. That's what makes me sad. As said above I have been using and convincing dozens others to user Opera since Version 4 or so. Long years.
I am happy to finally have a browser that works as I want. MRU is finally back - still a no-go to me to don't have MRU. Also my new default Browser FF is much faster now. How came that the used-to-be "fastest browser on earth" got so damn slow? Also it crashes regularly - still does - even reproducable on some websites. Not even talking about the partial compatiblity problems. Oh - memory consumption is also better. Yeah I know, FF is not an angel here neither, but a lot better then Opera 12.x.
And yes, I am not talking about Opera Next/15, that is just a Chrome clone for me. Not even a good one. Oh, I don't mind the new browser engine, that is actually appreciated (faster, memory, ...), but what else is different then in Chrome... Hmmm, found not much any more.
Good Bye Opera, thx for all the Years and hours/days/months with you. Come back with some good ideas or you will die. Yes, still makes me sad. I prefer you come back, but you lost some, including me, on the way.

P.S.: I am also going away from Opera Mail, which still stores my 50k+ mails, from 2003 or even older. But hey what can you do: It crashes irregularly, no PGP support, no further support, ... Rest in peace. Used to love you also.
