The Checking for updates doesn't work topic

This week, I decided to try out Opera and see what all the buzz is all about. I am loving Opera!
When I go to the Check for Updates page, it tries to check for updates, but it always says "An error occurred while checking for updates"
I have tried restarting Opera, I have tried doing the recovery thing, and I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it! But to no avail.
Could someone please help?
Thanks,
jeremynwest

I am confused as to what you mean.

Also, just a quick question, how do I sync browser extensions in Opera?

@jeremynwest As rule number one should already have told you, there isn't extension sync in Opera.

@jeremynwest What do you mean? It didn't download and install the latest version? It didn't help fixing the issue?

@leocg Both

@jeremynwest What about the offline installer? Does it works?

It only does this on one laptop. On the other one it works perfectly fine.

Download https://ftp.opera.com/pub/opera/desktop/71.0.3770.198/win/Opera_71.0.3770.198_Setup_x64.exe, launch it, click "options", set "install path" to a folder named "Opera Test" on your desktop (use the "make new folder" button to create "Opera Test" on your desktop and then select it), set "install for" to "standalone installation", uncheck "import data from default browser", and install. Once that Opera launches, goto the URL
opera://about
, wait a tad bit and click "check for updates".Does it work there at least?

@burnout426 No, that did not work, but thanks for trying to help!

Should the recovery thing work? But before I do it, I want to know what I'll lose if I do it. Will I lose any experimental features from opera://flags? Will I lose all my extensions? Will I lose all my custom search engines? Will I lose anything else that is not synced on the cloud by Opera? Also, what does it mean by "clear temporary data, like cookies".
The recovery option I'm planning to use is "Keep my data and only reset Opera settings", so I don't lose absolutely everything. If this won't fix the problem, then I'll reset my data too, but how do I back up my history, bookmarks, settings, etc.?
Thanks,

@jeremynwest Okay, I know how to back up the necessary files, but how do I add them to the recovered Opera browser?

@leocg Never mind. I recovered the browser. It did not fix the problem.

@jeremynwest That means some security software (anti-virus or firewall etc.) is interfering. Either that or you have malware on your system.
