Same issue with Opera Beta and Opera Developer at https://www.opera.com/download? Maybe it's an issue that's already been fixed in those builds.

What is curious is why you don't get a redirect like others are observing instead of the BBC server simply closing your connection. The implication is that the site is doing a variety of sniffing (your IP location and your browser).

OK Turns out to be a DNS issue. Chromium seems quick to drop the connection, Firefox just buffers.

Hi @peejay, if the DNS is really the culprit, add the following DNS servers: 1.1.1.1, 1.0.0.1 (Cloudflare), 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4 (Google) in the DNS settings for your internet connection, and see if that helps. Here are few examples on how to do it.
