@joe
Slimjst is also a Chromium browser, and it does not normally have a sidebar. You can get bookmarks to appear in a sidebar, but you need to trigger that with a keyboard shortcut. -

I know it's not a bug, but I created a issue to let this know.
This "change" is very annoying, and lot of users complain about it, so I create an issue for it.
There a a lot of explanation of why users want sidebar only in speed dial or opera pages only in the main thread in opera forum :
- Main thread : https://forums.opera.com/topic/31727/side-bar-for-only-speed-dial-option-opera-60/82
- https://forums.opera.com/topic/32581/sidebar-on-startpage-gone
- https://forums.opera.com/topic/32697/sidebar-only-on-start-page/5
Without it, flow becomes useless as we need to do a complex process to access saved flows on desktop...
I really hope this feature will be back soon,
Manuel

So what's up here guys? As I understood from the messages Opera devs and designers are somewhere in a vacuum and they don't care of our opinion at all. This thing with the sidebar is the most annoying reason I stay with 58 at least for now, then I'm going to install firefox maybe.

yeah, this is is the worst change they've made yet.
i find it very annoying and i might even stop using Opera because of it -

Well, @anonan has been banned a few days ago, apparently. He's been making a lot of useful topics on the actual problems of the current versions of Opera starting from 60 and onwards. Mentioned lots of little and noticeable user-unfriendly details about newer version of Opera. Unfortunately, he wasn't very polite in regards to mentioning the competence of Opera staff lately, so this ban was only a matter of time.
I'm starting to think they aren't going to listen to us at all. I guess they're more concerned when someone finds a critical data or safety loophole, rather than caring about adjusting user experience while using the browser. I'll have to continue using the older version because all the new functions and defunctions aren't compelling enough to move on. This Side Bar thing is only one small part of the abundance of interface problems the newer versions bring to the table.

@weirdtuned, 100% agreed. Did they move UI department to a 3rd world country after they sold Opera company to Chinese investors? That is the only one explanation for making the browser unusable multi-purpose machine with an intentional decay of the user interface.

So I don't know for you guys, but I am finally up to uninstalling Opera. I was struggling the last few versions (since 58), now I'm going to get rid of this piece of user-unfriendly crap. Have a nice struggle with the sidebar.

Well, I found not very smooth solution. Just add shortcut for the "show sidebar" option.
It works fine, but you have to get used to it. -

Another workaround: you can add links to bookmarks, history, etc. to the start page. Links:
History: chrome://history/
Bookmarks: chrome://bookmarks/
Extensions: chrome://extenstions/
Settings: chrome://settings/ -

@manuelb have you got any answer about your suggestion? Could you tell the issue ID? May be some community members can tell us it's status?

@opera-user-from-2002 Usually they don't reply to suggestions, and when they do, it's almost always just the trivial ones thanking for the suggestion.

@opera-user-from-2002 Nope, even because they can't tell something that doesn't exist.
