@leocg Opera goes through the motions and then just ends with my computer settings page and an Opera icon on my windows 10 screen that does nothing

Maybe you should try the offline installer.

You could try uninstalling, then pressing Windows + r then write %appdata% then look for the Opera Software folder and then delete it. Try installing again

@albiceleste101 Thank you I just tried what you suggested but in roaming it only gave me the option to move to my recycle bin...
I could not find a way to uninstall in that screen once I chose Opera

@dilynn25 You were supposed to uninstall Opera normally, not from that screen.

@albiceleste101 ok, well, I tried using the uninstall and I still get the message that it only works with windows 7 or higher and that I should go to opera.com for compatible versions. I have windows 10!!! So I have no idea why this box keeps preventing me from uninstalling.

                        Opera installer 62.0.3331.123.0

This Opera installer works only on Windows 7 or higher.

Visit www.opera.com to download compatible version.

                        OK

@dilynn25 What installer is that? There shouldn't be that zero at the end of the build number.

Are you trying to uninstall from control panel or settings?

You can do some manual cleanup of Opera first and then install it via the offline installer. (If you want.)

                            Delete "C:\Program Files\Opera" if it's there.

                            Delete "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\local\Programs\Opera" if it's there.

Delete all files and folders in "C:\windows\temp".

Delete all files and folders in "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\local\temp".

Load up the Windows Task Scheduler and delete all the Opera tasks.

Delete any Opera shortcuts you see.

Unpin any Opera icons on the taskbar. (Then, restart Explorer via the task manager or just restart Windows.)

In the registry (via regedit) looks for Opera keys under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall" and delete the Opera keys. That'll get rid of the Opera Opera uninstall entry. Look in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall" too.

Delete "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Opera Software" if it's there.

Delete "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Opera Software" if it's there.

                            Delete "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Clients\StartMenuInternet\OperaStable" if it's there.

                            Delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Clients\StartMenuInternet\OperaStable" if it's there.

                            Delete "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\OperaStable" if it's there.

                            Delete "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\OperaStable" if it's there.

                            Delete "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Software\Classes\OperaStable" if it's there.

Delete "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software" and "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\local\Opera Software" to delete all your Opera profiles and data.

Delete any "OperaBeta" and "OperaDeveloper" keys and tasks etc. you see too if you want.

Download this specific setup file of Opera, launch it, click "options", set "install path to "C:\Program Files\Opera", set "install for" to "all users", uncheck "import data from default browser", check "make Opera default browser" (if you want) and install.

Then, you should be good to go. If that still doesn't work, create a new windows user and try again there.

@burnout426 Thanks, it's going to take me awhile if at all, to figure out where to go to do all that you suggested. I'm not very computer literate, but what you suggested is awesome, thank you for all the time you spent on that.

@dilynn25 Okay. Try the last part of just downloading that specific setup file and running it first.
