@jacas if you want, add this address to the address bar:

      opera://bookmarks/

Later, all you need to do is open this page in a new private window. Although I am not sure if it is a safe solution, considering what @leocg is writing about.

My proposals for changes in Opera (Google Document).

If I choose MENU> bookmarks in private mode, they open well. But just click on the sidebar tabs and transfer to normal mode.
        It does not make sense

@jacas just do not click "Bookmarks" in the sidebar, just open the tabs from under this link from the bookmarks bar (in the private window).

            Opera 60.0.3255.27
if being in the "Private window" click on the "bookmark" icon located on the "sidebar", then the "bookmarks" open in a normal window (not private).

@jojo0587 I never use the "Bookmarks Bar", so it's easier for me to use the "Hot Keys" to access the bookmarks in Opera.

@leocg that is, now it will be so or will the developers correct this misunderstanding?

I have no idea. Like I said before, it seems to have been a deliberated decision.

Developers know about this? Has anyone sent an error report on this issue?

This is due to the fact that the link in the sidebar immediately leads to the standard Chromium's bookmark page, which cannot be opened in incognito mode. And after that, the built-in extension for the Opera bookmarks opens.

Opera's bookmarks can be open in incognito mode. Assume it just an extension that override bookmarks page and have permission ("incognito": "split") to be open in incognito mode. Right click on Speed Dial allows you to do this.

This is another example of the "good quality" update Opera 60. "Reborn"

                                  That's... in Russian.

With the current version, I am able to open bookmarks just fine from the Bookmarks page. The only weird behavior is with the left bar. When I click on Bookmarks or Extensions, it sends me to the non-private window of Opera and opens the corresponding page. But I was never able to get a non-private tab in a private window, which I thought it was the reported problem.

i made an extension that adds a bookmarks button to the toolbar to replace the original functionality of the sidebar button:

                                    https://conceptualspace.net/open-bookmarks.crx

just double click it and follow the prompts in opera to install it (opera discontinued their extension store that's why you must manually download it)

on the extensions page, make sure to toggle "allow in private mode" for it to work.

PS: if you're concerned about what you may be installing, you can see the full source code by just renaming the .crx file to .zip and extracting the contents. hopefully others get some use from this. took me 2 minutes! cheers 🙂

I checked it out. It works as expected. I also looked at the source. It's simple and there's absolutely nothing shady about it.

I noticed that in a normal window, (with regular light mode at least), you can't see the button on the bar until you hover over it. No big deal though.
