OS Windows10 64-bit, Opera Stable 58.0.3135.127

You have updating issues from O-Menu which have been going on far too long and need fixing - DO NOT RUSH VERSIONS (because rushed versions turn into bad versions).

Since the latest Stable version 60 release, it would appear from comments made here and elsewhere that things are not going too well?

As a long standing and loyal Opera browser user, I feel I have the right to make constructive comment which I know will voice concerns of other Opera users. You once had email contact and I would have preferred to send my concerns that way.

I first started using Opera Mini v3 on mobile those many years ago, and have remained loyal to Opera ever since, gradually progressing to desktop.

I cannot update my Opera desktop browser to Stable v60, and THE LATEST UPDATE CRASHES EVERY TIME AND DOESN'T GET TO 100% (I've been trying to update since its release on 9th April, 2019). If there's an issue, take it offline until fixed, but at least put up a message saying there's an issue.
Don't leave users in the dark or users will leave Opera.

Opera has been my default browser for a very long time. This is the first time I have to seriously question changing to a different default browser as I need reliability at the Stable level.

I praised Opera so much over the years and got others using it, but have become embarrassed as my friends ditch Opera for a more reliable browser (in their view).

I've always been willing to help and wait as bugs are eliminated and fixes made, but come on guys, were talking about the Stable version here.

I don't want to mess around trying to get the Stable browser working. I do not want to again clear Opera from my system and download it over again.
NOTE: Even O-Menu recovery doesn't work properly.

In addition, when is Opera going to fix the speeddial please (my example below).

@leocg Good afternoon Leo, being of the older and wiser generation, I'm not shouting as inferred, as that's just plain bad manners and bad form. I'm not a school kid who needs 'telling off'!

If however, you're referring to some capitals in my post to highlight some issues of concern, then rest assured this is NOT shouting.

If it's perceived as such, there was no intention from me.

No issue updating my 58 to 60 on Windows 10. It worked just fine and updating has been working fine through every version.

Please try it one more time, following the directions below.

In Opera, goto the URL opera://about and take note of the "Install" path. Uninstall Opera via Apps in Windows and choose to keep your data. Then, delete that install folder (whether it's "C:\Program Files\Opera" or "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Programs\Opera") if it still remains.

Load the Windows Task Scheduler, click on "Task Scheduler Library" and delete any Opera entries you see.

Delete any pinned Opera icons in the taskbar and delete Opera shortcuts on the desktop and Start Menu.

Empty your temp folders "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\temp" and "C:\Windows\Temp" to get rid of old Opera installation stuff.

Launch regedit in Windows and delete the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Opera Software" and "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Opera Software" keys.

That should be enough to clear things from Opera that might be messed up.

Goto https://www.opera.com/download and download the "Offline Package" for Windows. Make sure the file has 64 in the filename. After it's downloaded, launch it and click "options". Set "install path" to "C:\Program Files\Opera", set "install for" to "All Users", uncheck "import data from default browser" and uncheck anything else you want. Then install.

From then on, updating should work fine. If it doesn't, I'd look at things outside Opera interfering with Opera.

I am not a person who thinks everything about Opera is great with the product, but it is free. I can remember in the old days of version 6 or whatever, when users actually had to pay money to use the browser ! However to get back to your problem I would either download the full offline package and instal it upon the existing installation. If you think this would make matters worse, uninstal Opera via the "normal" method backing up your bookmarks and noting extensions etc. Then reinstal as a standalone instal shown as a USB installation in the full offline package. You can instal it anywhere including the "C" drive. ALL the files will then be in the one main folder or subfolders of that folder. Then create a shortcut of "launcher.exe" and stick it on your desktop. This installation should sort out any problems, and if not just delete the folder. This method does have a draw back in that you cannot set it as a default browser !

Thank you to all my friends in our Opera Community who offered their assistance.

In the end I gave up and uninstalled Stable 58....127 then "Re-installed" on my Win7 32-bit machine, after first backing up my speeddials.
It updated to Stable 60.0.3255.27

Interestingly, after going through the same process on my Win10 64-bit machine around 15mins later, Stable 58....127 updated to 60.0.3255.40

I had to do the same uninstall/Re-install process for the latest Stable update on my Win10 machine (though didn't need to backup my speeddials this time around).
