@aidar Opera's dark theme works only in Opera's UI, it doesn't change sites backgrounds. To change the background of a page you can try some extension.

@aidar use this extension to download chrome extension and use this chrome extension to change darkness/color of ANY website you're on.

You think you know, but you have no idea.

@aidar said in Opera dark theme:

          Example 3. Browser settings.

Put this in the address bar and hit enter:
          opera://flags/#new-md-settings

Enable that setting. When you are using Dark Theme, the settings are dark. When you are using Light Theme, the settings are light.

@acidinmyfridge This expansion is already worth it

@smsmith Did. Now the settings have become black, but before that, a white background opens for half a second. Also the left menu has disappeared.

@leocg You are not quite right. Before opening any page (Express panel, site) for half a second appears the white background of the browser itself. While on the Express panel I have a default dark background.

            Example with video:

Yeah, that's how the Material Design settings will work, no menu, you'll just scroll down through the settings. It's a tradeoff.

The white flash is always going to happen, since the white background is the blank window before loading a page. Opera would need to change that for the dark theme. I understand your frustrations though. If you're going for all dark and then suddenly have a blinding flash of white, even for as short as it is, it can be pretty jarring. In the meantime, maybe just close your eyes when you click to open the settings page?

The main question is that how to change back to light style?

@martingal The same way you select the dark one, using easy setup or settings.

@aidar White flashing when opening a new tab seems to be a known issue. And is not related to what you had said before, what is still correct.

@Martingal The question is for a dark theme to become a dark theme.

@leocg This forum is visited by the developers?

@aidar There are people from Opera that check these forums.

I am also having this issue, and it is incrediblyu painful as I am sensitive to bright white light.

I really hope developers actually read this forum. The solution is pretty simple from a devs point of view: https://github.com/hbtlabs/chromium-white-flash-fix/commit/b1c4d8efd43fa46c61b9dc695f387f41a16947fb

They need to set that if the theme is dark.

I just upgraded from Opera 49 to 56, using dark mode in Windows 7 and the #reborn-win7-aero-skin flag set to Disabled.

It seems that this flag has been removed in O56. As the result, the background of the title bar is not black as before (O49), but transparent, like the default setting in Win7. It is very ugly to have black tabs in the left and transparent the rest of the title bar.
Any ideas to bring the black background back?

White flashes disappeared when the browser was updated to the latest versions.

Unfortunately, the settings were not updated (the Advanced menu did not appear in the settings), and I had to completely reinstall the browser.
After reinstalling the browser, it turned out that Install Chrome Extensions is not working
                              https://github.com/operasoftware/chrome-webstore-extension/issues/24
and Dark Reader cannot be installed.
