I too have exactly the same problem, I have tried clearing cache & data, uninstalled and reinstalled again. But no success, This is happening since the last 2 versions of beta updates...

The last time, I solved by uninstalling and reinstalling the app... but I lost all my shortcuts, access data, etc...
I hope that data loss isn't an updatig feature!

Is there a way to restore data and browser both, and maybe prevent this from happening at each update?

I was having Opera Beta v32 as backup somewhere on my phone, I restored it but Opera 44 beta doesn't seem to work now.
Tried everything as you told. But nothing worked for me.

Opera beta 44.0.2246.122574 (updated 16th Nov) is still unusable, just freezing on startup, can't even get the menu, have to force close the app.

I have also tried clean installing the app.

I think this is happening ONLY ON X86 BASED DEVICES, As I have checked on other devices it is working fine.

Response from your end is highly appreciated.

If Opera Sync is not enough, then try Titanium Backup - or any other - or Root and back up Opera folder.

It took a while, but now we've pushed fixes, so you should be able to use Opera 44 beta again.
