Interesting, thanks for that.
I will have to investigate further, but I could find no mention of this facility on Avast's site.

No idea if it is giving me all updates or only the ones they think are needed, but if you watch it update (as I did yesterday and have done before) you'll see it say "Executing kb_######.i86.exe /silent" during the later part of the update. (where ###### is some 6-digit number, I think the one I saw yesterday was 970152 but didn't write it down.)

Has anyone received an update for Vista systems after installing
Version: 36.0.2130.75 - Opera is up to date
Update stream: Stable
System: Windows Vista 32-bit?I use the menu option "About Opera" daily and always get the above results...

Still 36.0.2130.75.
Does anyone know if there'll be an security update anytime this month? -

So from a security standpoint, am I any better off using Opera than Chrome (which dropped Vista totally)?

You answered your own question, didn't you? When was the last update for Chrome?
No. Chrome doesn't give any updates for Vista. Opera said it would give security updates (ostensibly making them safer for Vista users), but so far they haven't delivered on their promise.

This is probably not the place to mention this, but Slimjet 10 uses Chromium 50, and still supports XP and Vista, which just shows that Opera (and Vivaldi) did not have to drop support!
How long the Slimjet developers will be able to maintain this remains to be seen of course.

Apparently Opera hasn't kept their word:
"We do care for our loyal users...While Opera 36 will be last one with features additions on Windows XP and Vista, we are still going to provide security and crash fixes to XP and Vista platform."
Slimjet is a great Chromium based browser that still supports XP and Vista, I assume many will migrate to that from Opera. Thank you davehawley for informing us of it.

Why do you say that?
Since 5/11 it didn't get any security updates, nor has the build changed from version 36.0.2130.75 to a higher number (within version 36).
