@dayni4 As already said, search engine in start page/speed dial can not be changed.
Oh, i have same problem. After I launch the browser, it quickly starts to consume a lot of memory, like from 1gb up to 10gb. Already at ~3gb it freezes completely, only way to use GX is to limit it's resources consumption.

Anyhow..
If someone is having the issue, just open another tab with the same page and close the first one. That will fix it..
Had the same issue while i was watching an netflix series at fullscreen!

@demona1 There's an On/Off button at the top of the page. Turn it on.
@mateoninho I can't confirm that behavior here, closing last tab just open the start page/speed dial.
