I think the "old" bookmarks (Up to version 12.xx) are actually gone. They ran the servers for some time but I believe it has been shut down... The "new" bookmarks are on a different server/ another protocol and incompatible.
One way I dealt with it:
Normally you have the bookmarks not only online but also on a computer (where it was synced to with the old browser). Simply find the bookmarks there and import them into the new Opera. Now you will have your bookmarks back and they will sync again.
HOWEVER, what is really annoying:
There used to be (not sure about the name) a field additional to the website name where one could put extra comments or keywords. This field is no longer in the new Opera. So all information there is lost.
As workaround: Save the old bookmarks as a html page. In this was you can put a link in speeddial to your old bookmarks and simply use the page search to get to the information needed.

Keep both files if you need to compare or save data.
In that file (if I'm not wrong), are this kind of info, (maybe more).

Hm... I checked by clicking the link in Android, and then going to Desktop, but the history entry isn't there.
Also I tried it vice-versa, when accessing the site on the Desktop, no entry is created in the Android history.

EDIT: i just logged out from my account and logged in again, now it seems to work, some sites sync, some not, but now I think that because the sync is not instant it takes time for new sites to reflect. One of the sites synced after 5 minutes and now it does appear.

This feature is disabled on my laptop... No way to revert to a previous version. I thought that synchronisation was the solution, but I will re-use the "save all tabs..." feature.

OMG!!! I hate computers

finally I was able to update to opera 44.02.25 stable on my LINUX machine

that allowed me to synch 🙂

and copy my bookmarks

so they desired effect has been achieved after 4 weeks of frustration!!!

the beauty of opera is your can SYNCH and keep bookmarks and speed dials 🙂

now using clonzilla i can clone the drive for future safetykeeping in about 15 mins

Try a data reset. Make sure that you have all your synced data backuped before.

Ok, well, I did as I said and it seems it all worked. I was able to set a new passphrase with no troubles.

Hi @vince42, click on the gear icon (Customize start page) in the top right corner of the SD page, and make sure, that you selected the checkbox on the left of the "Speed Dial" (below the Navigation section). After that, if this helps, sync your profile - this should prevent overwriting of your settings, when you sync again in the future.

Passwords are synced only between desktops.

Speed Dial is part of bookmarks so if SD was synced then bookmarks should have been too.
I kept resetting my sync, I kept being asked for passphrase

If you used Opera prior to the hack last year when everyone was required to change their password, it may use the "passphrase" message to ask you for your old password.

Nope. Once you close a private window or a tab inside, then it's gone for good.

Or could it be made an option?

I don't think it would make any sense, but you can suggest such option in Suggestion Box.

I didnt knew there was a sync passphrase, im trying to get all my data back without reseting deta... thought it was enough with my Opera account, chrome is better for easy syncs z.z
