Note that the link contains "Sony Xperia Z3 Compact", "Android" and "Opera Mobile" - it is the adware which has access to your device, not necessarily the website.

Click on the Opera icon on the top right.

Here it's on top right on phone mode. It's on bottom right when you selct 'Classic' mode.

But nothing happens when pressing

It should open a menu that allows you to go to settings and change back to tablet mode.

2nd test with the same site, this time for both browsers the picture quality is set to Low (Mini's data savings set on high, save data on wi-fi)

Opera mini: 6.4 MB saved, 86% data saving, which means 1.1 MB received. Opera Max (Mini app): 1.1 MB. Correct.

Opera android: Received 653KB/6.9MB
Opera Max (Android app): 1.3MB. What to believe now?

July 31, 2016. My Opera did not open apart from a small shrunken screen at the task bar. Well I worked out what was wrong with my Opera.

I use two monitors and some weeks ago I must have dragged the Opera opening screen to my No.2 Monitor and forgot to drag it back before switching off.

So simple and yet such a brain teaser to rectify.

You're a genius, horshack. That absolutely works! Brought back my scroll arrows. I'd disabled the animation options a while ago.

I've re-enabled all three: window animation scale, transition animation scale and animator duration scale. I noticed that the higher the duration selected, the longer the arrows stay on screen. 0.5x is a bit short but 1x seems about right. Shame animation has to be on though as I find things much quicker without. Nevertheless, I'm glad to have the arrows back.

I get a random and incoherent mix of favicons, the website's name from the url or the first letter of the websites name on my speed dial page. Very messy.

The power is in the option to choose. Good software provides comprehensive user options and choice... as well as doing what it's supposed to do properly!
