Just an update:

On the latest, Opera 45.0 for Linux, private windows ARE NOW identified. There's a little pair of spectacles on the tabs in a private window.

So that's that issue taken care of, good job.

Thank you tufuzay, I did not though about the "search with" function.

I also agree with what you say.
In the end, you can use qwant or other engines with opera. But the integration is not perfect. Not "default".
And this one extra click, even if this seems silly, brings me sometime to rather use google instead of the engine I would prefer to use.

What format is the bookmarks file in the profile? I

It can be opened in a text editor so I guess it uses some kind of text format.

The backup I do is HTML, which can be imported into any browser

So you want an export tool and not a backup one.

On MacOS, the tab close button is in the same place as the favicon. When you mouse over the favicon, it turns into a close button. That makes more room for the text on the tab, since there is only one image on it.

But it's OS related? Or could be done into Windows and *Nix?

I remember in OPresto the possibility to select the "X" tab button behavior:

Do you plan to add this feature?

I don't think they plan to add something like this, at least in a near future.

Anyway, you can use Google Drive to save your Opera's data if you want. You just need to upload them to your GD account.
