As it is discussed every second day, opera's built in libffmpeg does not work with h264 (and other) codecs. This is what mediainfo says about a random video I downloaded from bitchute a few minutes ago

Avc = h264 and aac is also not supported.

Since you are on an arch based distro, I suggest installing herecura's repo and installing opera ffmpeg codecs from there.

As leocg said, you are probably on 64bit, else you would be stuck on opera 45. To check if you are on 32 or 64, open a terminal and run this

uname -m

If it says "x86_64" you are on a 64bit mint 17.3, if it says i686 you are on 32. There are may other ways to check that, but this is the one that I remember now.
How do you update Opera?

If you're using Debian or *buntu, Opera should have added its repository to apt and your normal system update should update Opera as well. Other distros - like the Mageia that I use - may have to manually download the update.

@avl Unfortunately I had to migrate back to Chrome. I was too bored with Opera's not playing simple mp3 file (https://goo.gl/Nt1qSg) animated GIF's in Twitter... Instead of improving the browser Opera's team is making regres. 😞

I'm using opera 50.0.2762.67 stable in ubuntu-14.04 trusty.

None of codecs of /usr/lib/chromium-browser/libffmpeg.so works, the opera crashs when I enter in video pages or not detect in youtube test page.

After many tries I found a package that works in archlinux community.
https://www.archlinux.org/packages/community/x86_64/opera-ffmpeg-codecs/

I only download it and unpack and copy the libffmpeg to /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/opera/lib_extra/libffmpeg.so

Steps:
Download the package click in link "Download From Mirror"
extract the package
copy the file opera-ffmpeg-codecs-xxxxxxxxxxxx.pkg/usr/lib/opera/lib_extra/libffmpeg.so to
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/opera/lib_extra/libffmpeg.so

Yup! Here we go again..........

Running Opera 50.0.2762.67 - Opera is up to date.
For about a week or so all videos were playing well, right up to today when all vids refuse to play again!

This is getting pretty old. Wish Opera would address this chronic issue and solve it!

@leocg I have the same problem he has, (no flash) and I do have the 62.0.3202 codec installed. It was the only way to get any videos to work at all. I also installed the pepperflash_plugin_nonfree. I also have the latest libpepflashplayer.so from adobe copied into both the $HOME/.local/opera/plugins, and /usr/lib/oprea/plugins.

(tried it in the $Home/... first) And still nothing. PITA. This is such a common problem with Opera... I can't recommend the browser to anyone, quite frankly. Well, I'd tell them it's great, if you like to be frustrated and spend a couple of hours trying to figure out how to get videos to work... (again.)

+1 for that! On KDE Plasma save window is almost unusable for me - I can't manually edit path, see your pinned places, see thumbnails or change files view. Chromium implemented support for kdialog: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=40060 Could Opera Team do the same?
