No workspaces as such, but 'tab groups' works as it should (unlike 'tab islands').
I switched to that as my primary business browser after the "reinvention", but after the loud splash screen annoyance dropped, it's my primary for recreational use as well.

What we have here is yet another example of sloppiness, lack of transparency, and lack of regression testing.
Opera didn't used to be like this, only since they recently "reinvented" it. I have come to dread every new update.
Because of this, I have abandoned Opera as my default browser for business, though I still like it for recreational purposes. But the new annoyances keep accumulating.
Not just after an update.
Is there some setting to suppress this?

This was one of the many defects introduced in the "reinvention".
That awful new animation when swapping workspaces can now be turned off in the settings.
Still have a gripe about the lack of transparency. I had to dig this out myself instead of it being easy to see what the fixes are after an update.
The underlying problem is arrogance about "reinventing" browsing and utter incompetence in regression testing (assuming they bother at all).
I never uninstall a browser, but Opera is relegated to the historical collection and my default is now Brave.
New version just dropped, what is changed or fixed?
Is there a "what's new" page somewhere I can bookmark?

Tab islands. A very poor implementation of something many others have done correctly for a while. I mean tab groups. I have it turned off, but I might use tab groups if implemented correctly. Not a big issue to me.
A big issue to me:
That awful awful animation when switching workspaces. I know enough about programming to know a lot of work went into that, but who asked for it? What problem was it supposed to fix? Did someone think it just looked cool?
And it wouldn't be a big fix to make it a configurable option to turn off in settings.

Agree. But easier in the short run than migrating to another browser.
I'll wait and see if they fix it, a little bit.
The most recent update fixed a bunch of bugs, so it's not a lost cause.
There are chrome extensions that do the trick (sort of).
Really the workspace changing animation should be optional.
