@nostraozzy It wouldnt be a first time the dev team changed the default value of a specific setting, so this might have been the only change in between both versions. ( I did not check if this happened in this case, just for your information).
@quicksite I dont see any difference between Opera GX, Edge and Firefox in case of setting a bookmark, its the same (even presetting for hotkey)
-> select icon / press ctrl+d -> select finish
@clusternite By the looks of it I would have guessed it is connected to screen resolution, but playing around in between 2160p down to 800x600 I couldnt see this behavior.
@itzthemeow Installation started with admin rights? The only option left that I could think of.
@itzthemeow Going by the log, it seems like it is trying to access 2 different directories which actually should be the same
Maybe it doesnt work when your Username contains a blank space?
You could try installing it for "all users" instead (choose "options" in the very first window after starting the installer).
@Monolise thats quite the idea. You could even use a window handler to only apply the remape to Opera.
@saphirealba If you read the answers that were already posted before your question, you wouldnt need to ask again: its not possible with the way Opera is coded (though I also would like to be able to change it).
@leocg It might be a reference to the discontinued "Opera Turbo" function.
@mikeogghertz This is a very uninformed comment. Without any further information it could just have been possible you activated Opera VPN and of course your "destination" in that case would be whereever the VPN server is located. The same would happen with any other browser in the same situation.
@die89 Copy and Paste "opera://flags/#same-site-by-default-cookies" (without the ") into Opera GX adress bar, it will open a configuration tool and highlight a setting "SameSite by default cookies".
This should currently be "Default [E]", change it to "Disabled" and restart Opera GX.
@tauto About your info about the Opera Support page - this one doesnt work correctly and forcing dark mode makes it even worse (the logo isnt shown anymore).
This whole dark mode thing is causing more faults then benefits.
@operawm Yes, issue is persistent.
@SEoF As far as I noticed, the only starting sound is played after an update.
You might try ..\OperaGX\71.0.3770.205 rename opera_gx_splash.exe to something different, but after a (major) update, it will be there again.
@dahotfunk Different default setting, it was changed during one of the Opera updates (I think the new settings is "safer" by beeing more restrictive)
@chadek rightclick sidebar, configurate sidebar, is GX Corner activated?
@birdz samotxave doesnt imply that you downloaded Opera from pooshock, but that for whatever reason pooshock was already installed and now has placed an advertisement on your desktop, which happens to be a .html file and by that is associated to open with Opera. Thats why it shows the Opera icon.
@JFrigo If you copy opera_elf.dll from Opera to Opera GX, you turn GX into the normal version.
So as far as the website is concerned, it will be light theme, but you dont use GX anymore, thats no solution.
Besides that I would not recommend copying files without knowing exactly what they do - in my case I was just looking for the difference between both browsers and it turned out to be this specific file in this case. It could break a whole lot of functions doing this. So please dont do it.
@visajack
Once you copy opera_elf.dll from Opera GX into Opera folder, its considered to be Opera GX and will have this dark website problem.
If this is all it takes, it can never be a setting problem but definitly is something the devs have to have a look at.
