So, several times now, across multiple computers, I've had Opera just randomly decide to pin itself to the taskbar (just happened again today). This is quite infuriating, because I never pin anything to the taskbar. Is this a bug, or are you intentionally telling it to do this? If the latter, I really wish you'd stop, and if it's the former then I hope you can fix it. I don't like having to wrestle with a program to make it do what I want.

I realize this is only a minor annoyance, but it's still an annoyance.

This last update added 6 new shortcuts to my bookmarks bar. None of them I would ever care to use. I accepted long ago you adding them by default to the speed dial, but would you please stop putting shortcuts into my bookmarks that I have zero use for? Thank you.

Whose bright idea was it to integrate Facepuke into Opera? Why is there no option to completely disable it?

I despise FB with a passion, to the point where I'm about ready to abandon Opera completely over this, and I've been a faithful user (and paying customer at one time) for many, many years.

I want to know what level of integration they have with Opera? Does it have any telemetry data collection? And more importantly, why is there no option to completely disable it, like with an addon?

I don't know at what point it was integrated, I only just noticed it, but I really want some answers.

True, and I intended to mention that in my post, but forgot (thanks for catching that for me). My intent was simply to alert people to the phishing bug, so they can be aware of it.

Just wanted to add, that I tested the bug on an earlier build of Opera (10.54), and while it still displayed the incorrect domain, the "Secure" icon in the address bar did list the actual correct domain name.

So, I just saw this on another website. Apparently, there's a unicode phishing bug that's exploitable in multiple browsers. The linked article specifically mentions Chrome and Firefox, but Opera is also affected (obviously, as it uses the Chrome engine), as well as classic Opera v12 and a couple other browsers (ironically, Edge was not affected, but I still would never recommend it). It relies on using unicode characters in the domain, which the browser converts to appear as a different domain name. Add an SSL cert, and it's possible to make a phishing site appear to be completely legit, unless you actually check the SSL cert manually.

So, in my Opera directory, I found a file that's 4.66GB in size. I don't know what it is, and I presume it's safe to delete (the file date is 9/1/2015), but I'd like some confirmation first and perhaps some information about where it came from.

The path is as follows:

profile\data\File System\001\t\00

And the file name is just 00000000. No extension, just the numbers.

Any thoughts? I've never noticed this before, and it's got me curious.

Adblock Plus has an option to allow (or not) acceptable ads. I'm not sure precisely how they're defined, though.

My question is different:
When I right click on a link and select "open in a new Tab", I would like Opera to automatically go to the new tab, instead of staying on the original tab (this obliges you to go to click on the new tab to display it).

Ah, gotcha. I misunderstood what you were asking.

There's three ways I'm aware of.

Press the + symbol in the tab bar at the top

Right-click on the tab bar and select 'New tab'

Or press CTRL+T on your keyboard

Make that four, if you press the 'Menu' button in the upper left-hand corner and select 'New tab'.

I forgot about that one while making the list.

Try setting your taskbar to autohide (while Opera is running), let it drop down, then uncheck the autohide option to restore it. Maybe it's just confused about the taskbar location. If that doesn't work, try dragging the taskbar down all the way, then drag it back up again (you'll need to unlock the taskbar first).

If someone could even tell me if it's not possible, that would at least allow me to stop wasting my time researching it.

There's two different "Full screen" messages that pop up.

One is the "Exit Full Screen (F11)" message on any normal website.

The other happens when I'm playing video (such as on Amazon.com or Youtube.com), with the "Press Esc to exit Full Screen mode". I believe they're both HTML5 video (though I'm uncertain about Amazon).

Frankly, I know how to exit full screen, and just want these messages to go away. It was possible in classic Opera, but there doesn't appear to be any such option in ChrOpera. Yes, I've finally been forced to make the transition (even though certain features are lacking that I sorely miss, such as the 'right-click and scroll' to browse through tabs), and for the most part it's fine. I would really like to be able to block these popup messages, though. The only option I've seen so far, is from a post made in 2009 (for Chrome), and it's likely outdated. Not to mention there was a warning that it was detected as a virus by most AV software, which makes me leery of it to begin with.

I've not had any success from searching Google, so I was hoping someone here would know of a way that I'm unaware of.

I can't believe people are still on XP good god either Upgrade or get of the Internet you're just asking to be hit with cryptoware or worse become part of a botnet stop running an EOL and out of date OS or get used to programs no longer supporting your OS with the like of updates for security and features

You think that's bad, I work at a computer store, and had a guy in the other day that still runs his entire business off of DOS. Yes, his entire business (and it's a fairly successful local business, so it's not like he couldn't upgrade). Some people just refuse to upgrade. I admit to doing some of that myself (I'm still running Opera v12), but even I recognize that at some point, you just have to give in and move on.

I am more of a believer of that saying that: The weakest link in any computer system is the OPERATOR rather than what Anti-Virus or other Security Apps they might have or not have.

In this, I concur wholeheartedly, though a good AV (such as a properly configured Eset NOD32) can help secure even incompetent users from their bad habits.

Still waiting for an answer, just again 60% CPU time.
Stopped that process and Opera still working, so a totally unnecessary Opera process absorbs my CPU now and then.
There is no indication whatsoever of a virus or malware.

It may well be a plugin that's installed in Opera, not Opera itself. As joshl suggested, try running without any addons.

So, it only took a year and 10 versions to finally create a proper bookmarks system (presumably anyway, I'm not willing to test it myself, as I'm still happy with Opera 12.x). Very expedient.

Thanks for the reply. I simply renamed my profile (I never delete until I'm sure), so I may attempt your solution later, to see if it will work, as well.

Has anyone else noticed that Youtube is no longer functioning properly with the x64 version of 12.16? I've tried clearing the cache, disabling the cache, masking the browser, etc. No matter what, the formatting is completely messed up and the page barely even loads. On top of that, it refuses to load any videos, saying they're unavailable. Even videos streamed on an external site (e.g. on forums) will not show up for me. Before I fiddle with reinstalling Opera, I thought I'd see if it was on Youtube's end, or if it's just me.

Just to clarify, the x86 version works just fine, it's strictly the x64 version that doesn't seem to work right now.

Well, since I can't delete the post, updating it will have to suffice. It suddenly dawned on me, I could simply do a secondary "USB" installation, without the need for reinstalling. The test installation worked fine, so I suppose I'll remove my profile and setup a new one, as it seems mine has somehow become corrupt.

While I'm personally sticking with 7, there's no reason anyone has to upgrade from XP, just because MS is no longer updating it. If it works for you, and does everything you need it to, then that's all that matters. It's the same advice I give customers of mine who ask how often they should upgrade their PC. It's when it no longer does what they need it to do. Likewise with upgrading your OS.

Bah, I tried to directly link the downloads, but the URLs didn't work afterwards. I guess you'll just have to do as Linuxmint7 stated, and visit Adobe's site directly using Opera (don't forget to uncheck the Google Chrome download).
