RE: How to resize forum input window?Forum feedback
@leocg What is the purpose of the dark round circle with the up-down arrow inside on the left hand side?
Do you have any idea if there was a design purpose in making the user's center of attention (the writing workspace) smaller than the section displaying unrelated titles? I mean, if it was text that you were replying to, that'd be one thing, but in composing a new note, I'm not sure why any space would be given over to unrelated headers of other topics.
It really seems like that up-down circle thinging should have done something (?), (does it?). Would it be that difficult, do you think to fix something like that? It doesn't seem like rocket science compared to all the other auto-adjusting wizzy features in CSS these days. Even a slider bar that directly sets that % number would seem to be a way of implementing the feature even if not the most elegant.
Or... was there some other design reason to put more emphasis on old subject/topic headers vs. space for comments that I'm, completely missing -- i.e. like in the old cartoon, with suggestion forums, filled with legalese, with a tiny box where it says please write your suggestion here-> ☐. Please print legibly.

How to resize forum input window?Forum feedback
How do I resize this input window when composing a message to be about 75-85% the height of the window? While the proportion of window devoted to prior posts was ok (I might make it larger), for browsing posts, for composing I'd expect the compose window to resize to take up a majority of the space. So next I tried resizing it.
Normally, from other browser usage (or this browser on a different page), I'd hover over the separation point between top and bottom and see my cursor change to a up+down arrow -- but not here. I see a dark round icon on the left with a white up+down arrow in it, that looked hopeful, as I put my cursor over it, and saw my cursor change shape to a hand w/index finger (seeming to indicate the circle was clickable or selectable cursor, but doing so resulted in no changes.
I looked around and almost submitted a near empty post because I upon narrowing the browser window, the text of 'discard/submit' is cut off and all I saw was a blue-stub on the right -- that I thought might have been something to do with dragging the top of the compose section up or down. I saw a message about it wanting more text in a post, and rapidly tried to hit escape to stop it being sent -- either my actions or a minimum length requirement stopped it from being posted.
Finally I brought up the developer's tools and found that even though the bottom windows was marked to be resizable its height was set to be about 53% of the whole frame. I was able to edit that to 23%, and had acceptable proportions...I thought. Then noted the bottom window was really the same height, so had to find its size to make it larger as well... but then noticed....[a few other steps elided]. Somehow i think I was very much off the beaten track about the time I went into the dev tools, but such is life.
How was I supposed to be able to resize the input window? I even saw some little 45 degree lines in the lower rt-corner of the window, that would normally indicate a window resize -- which it DID, but only for horizontal (sigh).
And, of course, I have yet to post on the topic I meant to post on, instead, posting on how to do something seemingly trivial instead (double and/or triple sigh -- and I sometimes wonder why things take so long to get done... FWIW, Using opera 60.0.3255.109 on Win7x64.

Need way to recover entered text on any site.Suggestions and feature requests
This used to always bug me on Firefox until someone wrote an extension that allows you to recover any text you enter on a website before it threw everything you entered away -- for many reasons -- you hit refresh, you had to go back to previous page to check something, but going forward re-initialized page, Connection dropped, browser froze...etc.
"Text-Area Cache Window -- still available for FF/PM, @
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/textarea-cache/, will it be ready for Opera any time soon?TBH, I don't see how I'd convert a FF extension to one that worked on opera.
But this extension has consistently saved me hours of work. There seem to be so many ways for you to lose your input -- and this allows you to recover it. I'd recommend it only on personal computers.

Suggestion on moderating user posts given regarding Opera on Windows
astara about an hour ago:
This is a suggestion regarding moderation of a forum post. Please note this is a suggestion regarding moderation by a moderator.
moderator note:
ModeratorThere is a proper forum for suggestions.
One suggestion per topic. You can group those that are related.
A suggestion is something that you would like Opera to have, remove or change, so >there is no issue to be fixed.Someone who's native language is not english had a few suggestions about opera on windows. things they wanted to say about Opera on Windows.
[Mod edit: unnecessary long text with suggestions for Opera removed]
I don't see where it says that 'suggestions' and 'feature requests' are limited to 1/post (though I do know/acknowledge that being easier for tracking individual features.
Perhaps the moderator's first language is also not English and it sounding abrasive and 'short' was my imagination -- then again, the topic was closed off.
If it really was off topic (maybe they would have different opinions and suggestions on another platform, I dunno) for the Windows forum, it would have been nice to have forwarded the group of suggestions to the proper venue. It also might be nice to encourage people to only include 1 suggestion/post as it [making up / guessing at reason] makes it easier for people to respond and focus on one suggestion at a time and/or makes it easier for tracking.
I hope my giving a suggestion on how to make opera forum moderation more friendly, inviting and appreciative isn't entirely out of place, just that I felt empathy with someone having, perhaps more enthusiasm than knowledge about specific "posting requirements" and hoped that feedback on on the moderation would be take as a possible suggestion of how to moderate a user's posting behavior to greater effect and not potentially dissuade them from future postings.
(FWIW -- I'm often too abrupt and short and come off sounding alot more abrasive than I intended, so perhaps I'm reading too much of my behavior into the moderation).
Cheers,

Suggestion regarding Opera forum feedback.Opera for computers
If you close out feedback about the opera forums posted in the forums because it isn't the right location, it seems unuseful, if not negligent to not post a link to the right location. I see no place for suggestions or feedback regarding forums for Opera. Instead I see a help topic under which I see forums, so to get help on the forums, I clicked on that and end up right back here.
If the forums are the place to discuss opera suggestions and features, it seems that feedback about how such suggestions are posted and handled would also be in opera's forums. Suggestions and new features for Opera doesn't say it is limited to the browser. Please consider that Opera is the name of company / organization developing Opera and feedback about the Opera suggestion and feature process would seem to be very relevant to the user's experience of opera.
I came here to make a suggestion for a strongly needed feature for Opera, but find the entire process to be more than a little "off-putting" and unfriendly. Is this how Opera has been implemented -- to be user unfriendly? If so, then my suggestion in the area of improving Opera's user friendliness (I am not being specific because I'm not sure that this forum is very friendly to new suggestions and features) may be out of place. Even the process of reporting a serious lacking in Opera's user friendliness is very difficult.
First, I have difficulty in finding a place to give feedback about opera.
Then I have problems logging in because the password requirements have changed and my old password no longer works. I go for the reset password option and get the email and am told to change it to something I'll remember better next time. I had no problem remembering -- I had it written down in a password manager. The problem was (I'm guessing) the old password not meeing all of the new requirements. I don't know, because all I knew was my old password didn't work and didn't have an upper case letter in it.I then try to change my password on auth.opera.com, using Opera, to something that meets the new rules, only to find that Opera won't let me change my password!
I type in a new password meeting the requirements, and I get little green checkmarks next to each password box, but when I press save, I get an error message restating the password requirements (12 chars, upper+lower case+number). It doesn't tell me what is wrong, just restates the requirement no matter what I type.
So I bring up another browswer (the one I first used to d/l opera), and entered the same password I'd entered in reset dialog in Opera only to have it work in a non-opera browser.
Then I again search for where to submit my suggestion / needed feature only to guess, that maybe I would raise the issue in the forums and at least find out where to submit the issue. There I find some confusion, as my feature relates to Opera on Windows and see a generic suggestions and new feature forum. I go to read a sample of both to find where it might be better for me to post only to find in the first post I looked at, a rather harsh treatment of a Opera-forum newbie (as, obviously, I am as well). Feeling empathetic, I tried to repost their suggestions in the suggestion forum only to have it closed off because I commented about how the previous writer's suggestions had been tossed on the floor by a moderator, who then tossed my post with their suggestions on the floor saying that the suggestions should have been given in the forum feedback location because I had reworded the original user's suggestions so they would more clearly be understood as suggestions or new features. NO, I AM NOT TROLLING -- this is happening exactly as I am writing it... I came to write a suggestion/needed feature and ran into everything else when I got here -- and I still haven't gotten to the suggestion -- as I ran into all these problems trying to submit the suggestion! Before I even can submit the suggestion, I'm exhausted by all the problems getting to submitting a suggestion, making me wonder how many people just give up before then actually suggest anything because of all the problems encountered in trying to make one. I see there are many people who either didn't have the problems, or persisted, but am amazed at all the problems I run into just trying to submit a suggestion and the lack of "niceness" or civility on the part of those who might receive the suggestions.
Anyway, I don't know if I'll get an answer to any of the problems I ran into in trying to make a suggestion / feature request, or even a location to repost the problems (as it seems there is no way for them to simply be forwarded or moved to the right "queue"), but I'l have to take a break before I consider posting a suggestion, because I'm exhausted getting to this point.
Thank you for your friendly and kind treatment as I try to "contribute".

A suggestion is something that you would like Opera to have, remove or change, so there is no issue to be fixed.Someone who's native language is not english had a few suggestions about opera on windows. things they wanted to say about Opera on Windows.
Some suggestions about browser:
[1] When would be easy to choose search engine on speed dial widget? I am russian, but I not use Yandex, why I have to go to localstate file to edit? That would be amazing if this finally would be fixed.
[2] I really like Speed Dial - perfect and useful thing, but why still not possible to upload custom thumbnail to web-site I want (Opera don't have good (or even don't have) thumbnail in library sometimes). Please fix this issue!!!
[3] Why sidebar always black? Why not to do it black on dark theme and white on light theme with black icons?
(shows picture)
I really like Opera - best browser. I want to make everything to that Opera would be the best. Thanks[1] Suggestion: in Windows, please make choosing the search engine easier and default to my preferred search engine (no matter what opera may think is supposed to be my SE.
[2] I really like Speed Dial -- suggestion in Windows Opera: it would really be helpful if I could specify my own icon or thumbnail for web-sites to make them more meaningful. There isn't aways a good choice in the built-in library.
[3] Suggestion for Windows Opera: -- it would be nice if the user could customize their sidebar for a light or dark (or anything in between in any color) theme.
I don't see where it says that 'suggestions' and 'feature requests' are limited to 1/post (though I do know/acknowledge that being easier for tracking individual features.

RE: Direct links for x86_64 linux?Opera for Linux
@leocg I think I wasn't clear -- I am wanting x86_64, where the 64 = 64-bits. Am looking for direct links to the 64-bit images.
If I goto the linux download: opera.com->click on linux, then end up on
http://www.opera.com/computer/linux. The Download button gives me:
http://download1.operacdn.com/opera-stable-45.0.2552.898_i368.deb.If 32-bits are no longer supported, why is that the version being offered for download from the main(front) page?
Same for the rpm, it gave me a download of
"opera-stable_45.0.2552.898_i386.rpm"Another 32-bit version. That's why I asked here in the forum -- since the front page downloads are offering only 32-bit versions -- not the 64-bit versions.
From what you are saying, I assume this is a "bug" or mistake?
That's why I asked for the direct address for the 64-bit
downloads (because the front-page download address was sending me to the 32-bit version(s).Thanks!

Direct links for x86_64 linux?Opera for Linux
I'm having problems finding x86_64 version to download. I find places where it points to linux, but have either been directed to 32-bit browsers, or windows.
For example, from this page:
http://www.opera.com/computer?os=linux-x86-64&list=all,
The main header says "Opera browser for Windows PC" (and the links return options for Windows (maybe because I'm trying to d/l opera from a windows computer?)...Are there any direct links? "Best" would be a tar image
w/a static image. I tried an rpm I got from a 3rd party rpm site. It installed just fine, but wouldn't come up -- seemed to be library problemsThanks and sorry for such a basic question...
