I regularly end up with hundreds of open tabs and have to save them as a Speed Dial folder to alleviate the load on the machine. I then virtually never access those Speed Dial folders again. Scanning all the tabs to see which ones I want to close is a lengthy operation which I seldom feel like doing. In the meantime, I constantly use CTRL + SPACE (Instant Search), where I typically see a few tabs listed which I don’t need any more. Clicking on a check box next to each such tab to close it right away would be a simple method to keep the number of open tabs manageable, without having to spend time visiting them and possibly lose your train of thought.

How to select directory by typing its first letter in Save box?Opera for Linux
Hi all,
I happen to save specific web pages outside of my default download directory and I am used to type the first letter of a directory to easily select it. This works in many Linux applications and worked as well in Opera until recently. It does not work anymore and does strange things. So how can I select a non default save directory without having to scroll among tens of files? -
RE: Wrong URL is loadedOpera for Windows
@burnout426 This behaviour was still found in Opera stable Linux Version:67.0.3575.137. Disabling the flag did the trick. Thanks.

Close all matching tabsSuggestions and feature requests
Hi all,
I am a great fan of the "Search for open tabs" feature and its convenient "CTRL + SPACE" shortcut. This option would IMHO be even greater if it displayed on each line a "Close" button (beside the icon on the right to switch to this tab), or alternatively a selection box with a "Close" button at the bottom of the dialog, which would close all the selected tabs (those boxes would be selected by default). I think this would be much more useful than for instance the "Close tabs to the right" option found on clicking on a tab’s header.

RE: Get a list of open TabsOpera for Android

Creating Speed Dial Folders
Open all the tabs you want to save, right-click one of the tabs and choose "Save tabs as Speed Dial folder" to save the entire session. Opera doesn't assign a name to the new folder automatically, so you need to do it manually. Click "Opera," click "Speed Dial" to open the Speed Dial page, right-click the folder and click "Edit title." Type a name and click "OK." To open all the Web pages in the folder at once, right-click the folder and choose "Open all" from the context menu. To add new pages to the folder, click the folder, then the "+" button, type each address and click "Add it." To display the Speed Dial page when you launch the Web browser, click "Opera," "Settings" and then the "Open the start page" radio button in the On Startup section.Source: https://itstillworks.com/program-speed-dial-6284962.html

Opera browser alongside Opera 12.16Opera for Linux
Hi all,
I am currently using a somewhat obsolete 32 bits laptop with Debian wheezy and would like to install the last opera browser alongside with Opera 12.16 which I need to manage my emails.
When I try to install opera-stable using dpkg, I get:
Selecting previously unselected package opera-stable.
dpkg: considering removing opera in favour of opera-stable ...
dpkg: yes, will remove opera in favour of opera-stable
Hopefully I hit CTRL+C quickly enough because dpkg would remove opera 12.16 altogether without prompting. How can I have opera 12.16 and opera 45 on the same 32 bits computer?

Well, a global upgrade did the trick
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade - Opera for Linux

RE: No youtube video, "connection not private" messageOpera for Linux
Hi all,
I just upgraded to 43.0.2442.806 on Debian 8 Jessie. I am lacking video support according to https://html5test.com : see http://migo.info/share/video_opera.png
Flash and youtube work in Firefox. Firefox however is not decently usable, that’t why I’m trying Opera again.
I tried "apt-get install pepperflashplugin-nonfree" but it ended up with public keys missing or whatever mess, so I removed it. I also noticed that the flash plugin has disappeared in opera:plugins.
Any clue? Still such a bore after all those years.
Cheers,

RE: Warning exit dialog when having multiple tabsSuggestions and feature requests
I can’t imagine that there is any need to discuss such an INDISPENSABLE feature (as an option of course).
Opera has discontinued a wonderful browser and mail client for something brand new, but after more than 2 years we still don’t have a decent replacement (besides bells and whistles for the kids I mean, this of course being on top of the list of requirements in today’s world). Firefox is a crashing machine and I don’t like Chrome, but in Opera 31 I did not even manage to make TabHamster automatically save my open session.
Typing ALT+F4 with the wrong window selected is something many people may well do when in a rush or tired. When you rely on a wireless broadband connection, you can’t accept wasting your data allowance due to the huge lack of essential functionality in your browser.

RE: Any possibility to have a readable status bar?Opera for Windows

In Opera for Linux there is an extra section in opera:config which only has an effect in X11 mode.
Thanks a lot sgunhouse for your very pertinent answer. I did not find how to drop to X11 mode (with the exception of the file chooser in X11 mode) so my Opera is still in GTK mode. However your suggestion allowed me to find an "Interface colors" section in opera:config and I was then pretty confident it would solve my problem. I changed all the gray colors into bright colors and restarted to test... Then it was Carnival but... the status bar was still gray on gray!
Despite this, my problem is now SOLVED. Since I always had the status bar active, I hadn’t noticed that, when it is disabled, there is a nice tooltip with the address popping up in black on white. Actually I barely needed the status bar for anything else, since Opera allows us to zoom in and out through the keyboard, which is way more efficient than the slider in the status bar.
Thanks again to all who replied! Your help was very much appreciated and I learned things.
Cheers,
Alexandre

Thanks Frenzie for the reply. I changed the colors to no avail. However running in X11 mode could maybe solve the problem, if I judge by the drastic effect it had on the File Open/Save dialog. I will ask how to do it on the Linux forum which I finally found. For such a simple annoyance however, it would be a complete change of look and feel, probably not for the better,

RE: Any possibility to have a readable status bar?Opera for Windows
@rilef: Well I tried the 2 provided themes in Tools>Appearance>Themes. I don’t even know the difference between a theme and a skin. I had not found a specific forum for the Linux version and will look for it now.
@Frenzie: changing the opera:config#FileSelector|DialogToolkit to 4 was of course unrelated to the problem at hand, but it allowed me to get rid of GTK file chooser’s irritating behaviour, which is not particular to Opera: my long list of unmounted fstab entries appears in "Places", hiding away the favourites. Now I still have to find out how to run the whole Opera in X11 mode.

RE: Any possibility to have a readable status bar?Opera for Windows
Thanks Frenzie for the reply. I set opera:config#FileSelector|DialogToolkit to 4 in order to run in X11 mode but did not notice any change after restarting Opera. The status bar text is always displayed in gray on gray.

Thanks rilef for the reply. Restoring the toolbar to the default did not help. I don't mind about desktop environments and use IceWM which is rather barebone without particular theme.

Any possibility to have a readable status bar?Opera for Windows
Hi all,
Since the address of a link does not appear inside a balloon in Opera, the status bar is indispensable to check for it and e.g. avoid counterfeited links. Then why is it grayed out and almost unreadable? This is the same with "Opera Unix Skin" and "Opera standard", and removing special effects does not help.
Is there a theme somewhere for people who don’t value visual niceties over usability?
Cheers,
Alexandre
