@DoktorK0t Yeah, Opera can be pretty stubborn about that one. If clicking “Do not show” or “Remind tomorrow” doesn't stick, I'd check Opera's own setting first.

Go to Settings → Default browser and look for the option that says something like “Ask me when Opera isn't the default browser” and turn that off. You can also type opera://settings/defaultBrowser into the address bar to jump straight there.

If it's already turned off and the popup keeps coming back, Opera may not be saving its settings properly. I'd check that Opera isn't being run with a temporary/private profile and make sure it has permission to write to its profile folder.

Also, if you don't want Opera as your default, set your preferred browser under Windows Settings → Apps → Default apps. Then restart Opera and see if the notification finally stays gone

I see, I’m really sorry to hear that. Honestly, the only thing I can think of is regularly backing up the whole Opera profile folder, especially if you’re having problems like this more than once. It’s a pain, but at least you’d have a way to get things back instead of starting from scratch. I hope everything works out!

@neilpwa This sounds like Opera may have opened a new or empty profile after the update rather than actually deleting everything.

First, don’t start adding bookmarks or changing settings. Go to opera:about and look at the Profile path. Then check that folder and see whether your old Bookmarks file is still there. Opera specifically recommends checking the profile location this way, and that folder contains your bookmarks, sessions, preferences, and other data.

Also check whether you were signed into Opera Sync. Your bookmarks and Speed Dial entries may still be synced to your account.

There’s a decent chance your data is still sitting in the old profile. I’d look for that before doing anything drastic.

If you mean the old list view of your open tabs, I’d check the tab screen itself first. Opera has changed the Android tab interface a few times, and the options can depend on the version and layout you’re using. Opera’s current help only documents the visual tab view, so if you’re not seeing the list option anymore, it may have been removed or moved in your version.

I’d make sure Opera is updated, then open the Tabs screen and look for a small layout/view button near the bottom or in the three-dot menu. If it’s simply not there, tell us your Opera version and Android version. That’ll make it easier to tell whether you’re missing a setting or Opera changed the feature.

I don't think there is currently a desktop Opera setting that completely removes local bookmarks from the address bar suggestions while keeping the bookmarks themselves.

The address bar uses bookmarks as one of its suggestion sources, and the available settings mainly control things like search suggestions and browsing history. The Android version having a separate option doesn't necessarily mean the same control is available on Opera for Windows.

If you want to keep the bookmarks but prevent them from appearing in the suggestions, I don't know of a reliable flag in opera://flags that does this. Those flags can also change between Opera versions, so I wouldn't recommend relying on an old flag you find online.

One thing you could try is checking Settings > Privacy & security > Address bar, if that section is available in your version of Opera, and seeing whether there is a bookmark-specific option. If there isn't one, it looks like deleting or moving the bookmarks would be the only practical workaround at the moment.

If anyone knows of a current Opera desktop setting that specifically disables bookmark suggestions, I'd be interested to know too.

I think what you’re describing is autocomplete, not the normal Autofill setting. Opera unfortunately doesn’t have one simple switch to turn off every type of address-bar autocomplete.

I’d try this first:

Settings → Privacy & security → disable “Improve search suggestions.”

You can also go to opera://settings/enhancedAddressBar and turn off the enhanced address bar suggestions.

If Opera is still filling in old sites from your history or bookmarks, those are handled separately, and there isn’t currently a complete “turn all autocomplete off” option. That’s probably why you’re still seeing the YouTube video suggestion.

I’ve been having an issue where Opera gradually becomes slower the longer I leave it open. At first everything works normally, but after a few hours new pages take longer to load and scrolling sometimes becomes noticeably laggy. Switching between tabs can also take a moment.

Restarting Opera fixes the problem temporarily, but it eventually comes back. I usually have several tabs open, although nothing particularly unusual.

I’m using Windows 11 and the latest version of Opera. I’ve already tried restarting the browser and disabling a few extensions, but that hasn’t made much difference.

Has anyone else noticed this? Is there a setting or diagnostic page in Opera that I can check to see what is causing the slowdown?
