I just bought a new Dell a couple of months ago. It has Win8.1.
I've had absolutely no problems with Opera until a few days ago.
Upon someone's recommendation, I downloaded Gimp, a graphics program.
Almost instantly, when I logged on to one of my discussion forums, the graphics went haywire and, when I tried to read posts or scan the forum, all I got was garbage - string after string of stuff like this

I've got to be honest, I HATE IE, Chrome, and Firefox and Chrome are achingly slow.

Gimp has nothing to do with your issue. It does not interface with Opera in any way. What I would try is clearing out your cache and browser history and visiting the page again. Until you tell us what version of Opera you are using we can't really help you further.

I'm using the latest version of Opera available for download.
I've cleared history and cache repeatedly.
I have no idea what you mean by trying a new profile.
I was getting something about script not working and, when I tried to follow the instructions for correcting it, there were no similar prompts on the menu - that thing with three verticle bars.

And what about cookies?
I have no idea what you mean by trying a new profile.
Go to Menu > About Opera and take note of the path to your profile folder. Then close Opera and rename that folder to force the creation of a new profile.
Open Opera and check if it helped. If not, just deelete this new folder and rename back the old one.
Btw, do you use any extensions? Hava you tried with them disabled?
