      Hello.

My friend has Opera installed on her computer, and when I stayed at her house last week, I got to use Opera for the first time. I liked it enough that I am interested in installing it on my own computer, but I have a couple of questions about something that I'm curious about.

1.) Based on what I've read, my understanding is that Opera is a Chromium-based browser. Is that correct?

2.) If that is correct, then I'm confused about something. When I was using Opera at my friends house, I explored some of its settings and features, and I when I opened the About Opera section, I distinctly remember seeing the name Mozilla being mentioned there. I don't remember what it said exactly, but I do remember seeing a reference to Mozilla.

If Opera is in fact a Chromium-based browser, then why the reference to Mozilla? What does Mozilla have to do with Opera?

      Thanks.

For site compatibility. Almost all browsers mention Mozilla (and/or Webkit, Gecko, etc) in their user agents.

          Chrome reports itself as

          Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/41.0.2272.101 Safari/537.36

KHTML is the original Linux rendering engine that Apple chose to base Safari on, Webkit is the rendering engine from Safari ... and Gecko is the engine from Mozilla. But yes, even IE says Mozilla.

              Okay, I understand.

I appreciate all of the answers and information from everyone.

I have a couple of other questions, and then I should be all set. I'll post them in new threads sometime later.

              Thank you.
