I consider Acxiom, Epsilon, Experian, Google, Facebook, and the NSA to be siblings in an altogether evil family, so I avoid them whenever possible. The Opera Speed Dial page makes that more difficult because I turn-off Javascript for most surfing for both privacy and security reasons. Even though I added Duckduckgo to my Speed dial page, it still requires two more clicks (one on the Duckduckgo icon and another in the text field to obtain focus) to search. Using the URL text field to search isn't the solution, even though I set my default search engine to Duckduckgo, because the lack of Javascript often results in a dead page (try it). There is always a Google search text field on the Speed Dial page, but I won't use it. I used to use Firefox with NoScript, but the goofy implementation of the latter drove me to Opera.

I ask for one of three things to be added to Opera:

      1. a home button that works like IE or Firefox, transporting the user to the default search engine,

      2. a keyboard shortcut to perform the above function (I did not see one in the help file), or

      3. the option to replace the Google search text field with one tied to the default search engine.

Just a heads up, this is the user support forum. Users helping other users. The devs don't come here much. It is also not the suggestion box forum, which is where suggestions for changes should go if you want a hope of having them listened too.

        1. a home button that works like IE or Firefox, transporting the user to the default search engine,

There are some extensions that do this already, if you don't want to wait around for a browser update.

Speed dial search can't be changed but can be removed.

@lando242, thanks for the heads-up. Every forum is different and I assumed that this was a mixed group.

@leocg, I do not see a way to delete the Google search from Speed Dial. The other icons have an 'X' inside a circle just outside the lower-right corner, but the Google search does not. I also do not see a way in Settings to do it. What am I missing?

Go to settings and check "Hide the search box in Speed Dial". You need to enable power user settings to view that option.
