        @bkelloggsr What version of Opera?

So you changed the search engine to Bing but, when search on address bar, the search results are from Google?

@bkelloggsr While you type your search query, what search engine icon/logo shows in address bar?

@bkelloggsr the search query starts with a G followed by a spare by chance?

In the search engines section in settings page, is Bing appearing as the default one?

@bkelloggsr The reason for my question is that Bing is selected as default and designated as the default, and yet my start page has the Google G "G" (no box, however) and functions as a google search engine. I want to set my Opera One up with Bing all of the time as the search engine. Can you help me? Thank you

@bkelloggsr It was already said several times that the search engine in start page can't be changed and it's totally independent of the default search engine used for searches in address bar.

@leocg What does this setting do which is worded as follows?? Search engines
To use a search engine other than the default, type its shortcut in the address bar followed by your preferred keyboard shortcut. You can also change your default search engine here.

@bkelloggsr It does what it says, it allows you to select one of the pre-defined search engines to be the default one used in address bar searches.

@leocg OK, I see. If I only search from the address bar, I'll get Bing. Thanks alot!

My problem (Win11 pro desktop PC) it that Opera keeps reverting to Google as my Search engine used in the address bar. I keep changing it to my favorite, but every 2 days it sets it back to Google. DuckDuckGo doesn't collect my data, whereas Google & co. do.
                              Any solution to this subterfuge?

@PS999 Honestly, this is so confusing and unreliable that now I have installed Microsoft Edge to get Bing searches. I have loved Opera for maybe 50 years, and I hope that they will straighten this out. It seems like being bullied into Google, when, frankly, Bing is often a better factual resource.

I agree, I too do like Opera very much, it works better that Edge in Win11.

The only way to set the address bar search engine is to:
type opera://settings in the address bar ―> scroll down to Search engine ―> beside "Search engine" select Bing from the drop-down menu.

to set your default search engine:
                                  type:
opera://settings in the address bar ―> scroll down to Search engine ―> click on Manage search engines and site search ―> click on the 3 dots to right pf Bing and click on Make default

For me it is a small inconvenience to pay for a quality browser.
