@pdw There seems to be something wrong with your Opera installation/profile directory. Or, maybe, you are using and old version of Opera.

Are you checking on 112 or in 85? For 85 the address is different.

@pdw And I replied that current version is 112 and asked if that version still shows the issue.

@pdw That version is not up to date. It's from April of 2022.

The newest version at this moment is 112.0.5197.39 and is available at https://www.opera.com/download.

What version of Windows are you using?

Did you get Opera from the Microsoft App Store? If so, that version is old and won't update to anything new. You need a regular installation.

There were some changes starting with Opera 100. Opera 100+ builds have some code to migrate old profiles. However, I'm not sure they will upgrade such an old build as 85 correctly.

First, you should make a test standalone installation of Opera 112 to a folder named "Opera Test" on your desktop.

In the test Opera, goto the URL opera://about, take note of the "profile" path and close that Opera. Do the same for your regular Opera.

What you'll want to do is copy (not move) the "Login Data" and "Local State" files from your 85 profile to the 112 profile and choose to replace the existing ones in the Opera 112 profile. Then, start Opera 112 (opera.exe in the "Opera Test" folder on your desktop), goto the URL opera://password-manager/passwords and see if your passwords are there.

Now, for your Opera 85, even if your passwords are not showing, goto the URL opera://settings/passwords, click the 3 dots to the right of "saved passwords" and choose to export your passwords as a CSV file. Then, open the csv file in a text editor to see if your passwords are in the file. Are they?

@burnout426 Thank you for the lengthy reply.
First, I had no control over what version is installed on my system. As I reported above, going to the settings/help/about opera it reports back: "Version:85.0.4341.75
                Opera is up to date".
I have always let opera auto update so I never got opera from any other source. My version of opera claims that it is up to date at ver 85.
Your solution is rather lengthy and prone to errors on my part. Where you state i am to click on the 3 dots to the right of the passwords won't work because there aren't 3 dots because it doesn't show any passwords.
It's interesting you say to export my passwords. I had no idea there was an export function. Doing that will help a lot because this whole endeavor was so that I could replicate my passwords from my main machine.
Now I will try the export from that machine. Both of my machines are basically for engineering work and browsing. no social media, etc.

Updating and checking for updates must be broken in your case.

Okay, then you won't be able to export your passwords then unfortunately.

I just now logged off this forum and logged back on automatically.

First, make sure you know your Opera account email address and password.

Then, in your Opera 85, close any forum tabs you have open here, goto the URL opera://settings/siteData in a new tab, type opera.com in the "search cookies" field, click "remove all shown" and click "clear all".

That will wipe out your Opera sessions to really make sure you're logged out of your Opera account everywhere.

Then, goto https://forums.opera.com/, click "Log in", which will take you to https://auth.opera.com/account/authenticate/email. Do you have to enter your email address there? Either way, click "Continue" once your email address is entered. That will take you to https://auth.opera.com/account/authenticate/password where you should have to enter your password. Are you saying you don't have to type your password there after clearing opera.com cookies?

If you still don't have to enter your password, that doesn't make sense with the password manager being empty. The only thing I can think of then is that your passwords got saved as plain text in the autofill data at the URL opera://settings/addresses instead of the password manager. Autofill data isn't something you can export though. You could copy the "Web data" file from your profile folder to the profile folder of the standalone installation to test if the standalone installation shows your passwords when trying to log in. If your passwords are in the autofill data, instead of the password manager, that means they're really not saved proper.

Now, if you want, you can use ChromePass or WebBrowserPassView to see if it can find your passwords. Just note that Windows Defender's realtime protection will flag these and potentionally unwanted programs, so you'll have to turn off realtime protection temporarily though. They're legit programs though.

Well, I finally solved my missing passwords problem. It seems that my Opera version was out of date even tho it said it was the latest(for my Windows 7) OS.
While browsing another posting, there was a new link to download for W7. After download and install, ver 95.0.4635.90,
my password save manager now works.
                        I am a happy camper.
