I went to my task manager and holy guacomole, its taking up 700 - 1000 MBs of memory on its own

That's a very normal memory usage

when I try pulling up a youtube video its shoots up to 1500

      Still normal
      :

and continually rises until it hits about 6,500 MBs and then it crashes

There seems to be a memory leak

@jakobe12 I have the same problem and apparently this only happens when visiting a website that plays videos

@killopx Most reports I've seen seem tied to live streams, and seem to indicate a similar issue on Chrome. Unfortunately if it is a bug in the underlying Chromium engine then it may be up to Chromium to fix.

Having said that ... it sounds to me like the browser is trying to keep the entire stream in memory, which is guaranteed to overwhelm RAM after only a few minutes.

Opera Gx consuming 3000Mbs of memory with high power consumption, sometimes giving insufficient memory. What should I do?

@mateusdrte13 You stared a topic with just an image and no (con)text on it, what is not allowed. Fixed it for you this time.

@mateusdrte13 It happens only on YouTube? On any videos?

@leocg Weird, I read that around 200 MBs was the norm, oh well, anyway how do I fix a memory leak in opera?

@jakobe12 200MB per tab on a regular tab. A tab with media (video mainly) can take more than 500MB on a not so high resolution.

@jakobe12 Opera will need to fix it most probably. What you can do is to try to avoid it, if you know what triggers the memory leak.

@leocg yes, it only happens on youtube, it's becoming more and more common. I've been using opera for almost 2 years, this is the first time it's happened

@leocg no, just for a better way to control my sound and also to read text from photos (https://webextension.org/listing/ocr.html) and (https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/volume-master-controlador/jghecgabfgfdldnmbfkhmffcabddioke)

@leocg Ok, so 200 is the standard for just a regular tab, I tested this and a tab with nothing on it is around 500 MBs, I know it's not a huge deal because I have a lot of memory, but I still want to know why its more than double the normal amount.

@jakobe12 There isn't a standard number, the amount of memory used may depends on a lot of factors.

Opera GX is using high memory ram in the recent updates (it was fine last month) well looks like we can't use a same tab to watch videos, if you open a video you need to close the tab and open the new video on new tab to reset the memory. hope you fix this memory leak. i have 16gb ram and sometimes i have out of memory message. below a print of gx controlc6383215-0b9e-4961-a7e2-2e29212a21e7-image.png
