Try starting Opera in a command prompt like this:

      "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Programs\Opera\launcher.exe" --disable-gpu

to test if that works. If so, you can adjust the Angle flag for your GPU to test if it helps (once you restart Opera normally). Or, you can disable hardware acceleration at the URL opera://settings/system.

Another thing to try is to create a new user account on Windows (local one not tied to a Microsoft account), log into it and see if Opera loads fine there. If so, you know it's something messed up with the existing accounts.

It might be one of the anti-virus programs list at https://www.reddit.com/r/operabrowser/wiki/opera/known_issues/#wiki_opera_closes_right_away that's interfering.

@burnout426 I only have Windows Defender & I assume that if the Administrator account didn't make it, no user account might. I only have local accounts. The machine was initially instaled with the Microsoft account 4 years ago, MS Office is shared with this account on another machine, but this account doesn't function there for a very long time.

I wouldn't assume and would check just to make sure. It might not be a permission issue and could be something else.

Did you check the Smart App Control settings in Windows Security to make sure it's off?

Try turning off all the options in the Reputation-based protection section in Windows Security too to test if that helps.

                  I enabled logging

Can you enable logging for a test standalone installation to a folder named "Opera Test" on your desktop?

In the log you provided, there are some signs of profile write permission errors, but you said you tried a standalone installation too. Would be interesting to see if those same errors happen there too or not.

You can try uninstalling Opera and removing anything left over including the local and roaming "Opera Software" folders. Then try reinstalling. That more-thorough uninstall might help. Not sure though, but worth a try.

@burnout426 Well I wiped Opera again, looking for every registry entry with F3 manually for about an hour. After I reinstalled Opera I tried --disable-gpu again and it worked! Maybe I should have tried that twice yesterday. Thank you so much!..

I chose opengl in the flag, and I see that hardware acceleration is turned off. Should I try to find an option where it's on or leave it as it is?

@radio303 I would try to find an option that works with hardware acceleration on so that you get better performance and only turn off hardware acceleration as a last resort.
